This evening my wife, my son, and I were outside picking tomatoes.  We have a whole bunch of them. Baby Kenny really likes to eat tomatoes.  While we were picking them, Kenny grabbed a tomato for himself and started eating it.  The good news for Kenny is that he can pick a tomato for himself.  The bad news is that he doesn't know how to choose a ripe one. Once we saw him eating his tomato, we switched it for a ripe one. I grabbed my camera out my pocket as soon as I ...

Today at the grocery store I picked up a copy of the Star .  Every once-in-a-while I enjoy looking through those celebrity/gossip/scandal tabloids or magazines. What really struck me about the magazine that I had just read was how often one can see Paris Hilton in the magazine.  Out of 96 pages, Paris' photo is on 8 of them.  (I didn't count how many times she was mentioned, but I am sure that it was more than a few times.) Since when is she so famous anyway? ...

I needed a new water heater for my house.  I decided to buy an on-demand electric water heater from Menards.  After checking (with the clerk, the brochure, and with the website) whether the appliance was compatible with my house's electricity, I went ahead and ordered it.  (Of course it wasn't in-stock.) Once we got the box open, we learned that our electricity wasn't compatible with the water heater.  (We needed 2x240 instead of 1x240.)  I wasn't concer...

So let's say Bush gets re-elected. What do you think that the chance is of the draft being re-instated by 2008? (A "draft" is compulsory service.  Young men have to join the army to fight for something that their president/government wants to do.  Men between the ages of 18-24 have no choice.)

The day before yesterday we took our baby to TARGET (department store) shopping. Here he is posing there: He LOVES to push the cart.  First he tried on his knees, then he stood up and "went for it."

Hello there. This evening I was taking a few pictures of baby Kenny.  His mom put some really cute pajamas on him, so I decided to get out the camera. Here are what the pajamas look like: Kenny REALLY likes our bird, Pipio.  He walks over to the cage and "talks" to the bird all the time.  He says, "Duh...Duh...Duh..." (Which is apparently his word for "bird.") Just posing for the camera:

Tonight for dinner, my wife is making us a yummy home-made pizza.  She does a good job with those. We went out to the garden to get some tomatoes to put on the pizza. We have gads of tomatoes out there! Here is today's haul:

Today has been a busy Sunday.  I intended to watch the Vikings game from three o'clock; but before that started, I had to get some yardwork done. The first thing that I did was cut the grass.  It had been two weeks since I had last done it, and it was beginning to get a little long.  I like to cut the grass on Sundays because I enjoy listening to the sports radio programs on WCCO radio (especially during the Twins' season!) The second thing was removing some bushes that...

At 2:30 AM Minnesota time, the Fall Grand Sumo Tournament will begin. I will be keeping up with the twists and turns of the sumo tournament over the next 15 days (the length of the tournament.) This time, there will be a few interesting things to watch for: 1) Will Yokozuna Asashoryu continue his streak of consecutive tournament victories?  (If memory serves me, he has won the previous four tournaments. 2) Will Ozeki Tochiazuma (now that his injuries have healed) cont...

This morning as I was reading the newspaper, I saw that there is a class-action lawsuit being processed in California against U-Haul. This all stems from U-Haul's practice of accepting "reservations" for moving vans (over the phone and internet) regardless of whether or not there actually is a truck available at a given location. As a matter of fact, I was burned by this myself last year.  I had arranged for a group of friends to help me one Saturday morning, and we wer...

Last summer, FOX introduced a new show called "Quintuplets."  It did well enough in the ratings to earn itself a Wednesday night timeslot. "Quintuplets" is a nice, charming show.  From the pilot episode, the show introduced identifiable and interesting characters (by sit-com standards.)  The characters even seem to have continued developing since the show began. The star of the show (or at least the most famous name) is Andy Richter. I really like Andy Richter...

Last Friday, our friends Rob and Nancy had a baby.  It is a little girl named Isadora. She is a cute little one.  The baby is long and thin.  She seemed awfully alert for such a young baby.  Maybe she'll be a bright little girl Congratulations Rob and Nancy! Baby cuddled with my wife: I was able to coax something that resembled a smile out of the little one: Kaco, Kenny, and Isadora: Here's me and the new little baby:

As an undergraduate, I spent some time in Saint Petersburg Russia.  While there I both studied Russian and enjoyed life. The local beer in the Saint Petersburg area is "Baltika." Lighter lagers are numbered 1-3.  Heavier ales are numbered 4 and above. I am a fan of lager beers, although I can appreciate the occasional ale.  I like the Baltika number three, even though it is bitter.  (Of course not as good as either Kirin or Molson!) Brings back good memor...

For those of you who are regular readers of my weblog: You will know that I have a nine month-old son.  You will also know that I am very interested in my vegetable garden.  In this weblog entry, I will put the two together. Yesterday, we let Kenny enjoy our garden-grown tomatoes.  It seemed that he really liked them!  He had such a happy face as he was eating them. After a while he had enough of eating, and he started to push the squashed tomato around the ...

Tonight (September 3rd) the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 2-0. Pitcher Johan Santana took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Once the seventh inning came, the pitcher gave up a single. Then a second baseman's error gave the Royals runners on first and third with nobody out. From that moment on, Mr. Santana got "The Eye of the Tiger."  He ended up striking-out the next three batters to finish the night with eleven.  I have never seen a professional athlete so ob...
