The second Spiderman movie starts this summer.  I am looking forward to seeing it.

In Spiderman 1, the villain was the Green Goblin.  In the second movie, Doctor Octopus gets to take on Spiderman.

I am assuming that there will be a third (possibly more) Spiderman movie.  I was wondering to myself which bad guy would be chosen for the third movie.  After the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, there isn't another bad guy who stands head-and-shoulders above the rest.  (The Hobgoblin might as well be the Green Goblin by the way.)

Here are my guesses for which villain will be next:

Most Likely:

The Lizard (already a Dr. Connor character)

Sandman (what is his origin anyway?)

Mysterio (possibly)

Semi-Likely:

The Vulture (my personal favorite)

The Beetle (another favorite)

Venom (too new.  Too farfetched. There is also that issue of explaining the "Secret Wars" costume too)

Electro (he'd be good.  They'd have to make his costume cooler though.)

Less Likely:

The Shocker

The Tarantula (I'd like to see that though)

Rhino (too stupid)

Kingpin (used in the Daredevil movie)

Did I leave anyone out?  I quit reading Spiderman in the late 1980s, so there's a big hole in my knowledge.

Venom and Carnage are hands down the best Spider-Man villians there are, I don't care how new they are. The whole symbiotic alien suit overtaking an "innocent" bystander and giving him super powers to justify it's own means?! C'mon, it's huge social commentary.
Also, can you IMAGINE the special effects? Awesome. (I am not a huge fan of special effects, but they can be used very, very well. As long as the picture doesn't revolve around them *ahem Matrix ahem*)

Dude, I don't think venom and carnage are that great. My favorite villian has got to be either Sandman, Scorpion, or Mysterio. I'm thinking they need to go through The Sinister Six? Maybe that's asking too much but it would be so awesome to see that one. Or when Spider-Man meets his counter parts. Yeah, I know, I don't really know spider-man comics, but I liked the tv show A LOT!

Yeah, I was thinking that the "Sinister Six" might make it, but that sure burns a lot of bad guys in one movie.

Good call on the Scorpion Captain Cornbread.  There's one that I forgot.

Of course the Scorpion has the same problem that Rhino has.  Kind of silly.

I'd like to see the sandman next. That would fill out my favorite Spiderman villans: 1) Doctor Octopus, 2) Sandman, 3) Green Goblin. Sandman is scary. As a kid, whenever I got near sand I'd be afraid he was going to pop-up and pull me in. *shiver*

I was reading on a website that there was talk of hiring Jake Gyllenhaal to play Venom in the third installment of Spiderman it was I believe on ugo.com, if anyone wants to look for it good luck.

I think by far Venom or carnage would be the best villians for an upcoming spiderman movie, like unfairman said, they would look so cool with the visual effects!!!

I think the Lizard would be good.

As for Venom, they should build up to it in previous movies, showing the rivalry between Peter Parker and that guy. It could be like a grand finale, his ultimate nemesis.

A scooper says Jake Gyllenhaal will make a brief appearance as Kletus Kasady in this sequel, as a set-up for a larger role alongside Venom in Spider-Man 3. (ZENtertainment)

That is one of the rumors at movies.com here is the link Link

I think that the one villian who could take just about any of the others down would have to be mysterio. come on, he knows what makes a guy shiver. you can't honestly say that an alien that only knows killing would know how to battle against a mind warp.

or how about the nice little spider slayers? not exactly great, but It would look sweet in a spidy movie...

I'm willing to say that Venom is a fairly safe bet. Not knowing how the Osborn storyline comes around in this story may put a damper on that (there's the possibility, I suppose, of some sort of Green Goblin coming back). Venom is not nearly "new," by the way, as Secret Wars (which introduced the costume) was in 1984, and Venom first appeared in Amazing #299 in early '88. He doesn't have some of the "age" of the other villains listed, but he does have at least as much baggage.
Manuevering around the Secret Wars origin is easily done, as well. Although somewhat clumsily executed, the Fox Spider-Man cartoon handled this. My concern is the matter of tying the symbiote to Parker, and still having time (movie-wise) to have it seek revenge/become Venom.
I hope that they don't go the road of the Batman franchise, and insist on sandwiching two unrelated villains into the same film just because they can. They dropped the ball in Batman 2 by not introducing Two-Face, IMHO.

I think that Billy Dee Williams was supposed to play Two Face.  He played the character who would eventually become Two Face in the first movie, but then didn't show up in subsequent movies.

Here's a villian that I had forgotten previously: Kraven the Hunter.  The downside of Kraven would be that there is a risk of the perception of cruelty to animals.

*I also like the idea of the Spider Slayer, but the conflict between Jameson and Spiderman may not be deep enough to make a movie out of.

I don't know that he was ever lined up to play Two Face, but yeah he was Harvey Dent in the first film. I sort of wished he had a bigger part as that, that they had developed his friendship with Wayne, and that they might've landed him for the villain of the second film, sure. And they could've easily introduced a (properly immature) Robin due to this introduction, perhaps later in the film, with the adoption of Dick Grayson at the *end* of the film, not gumming up the storyline...
But, back to Spidey. Kraven could be a decent choice. There was a fairly interesting take on him in the Ultimate Spider-Man book. Actually, I would expect a decent amount of the potential material, at least as it relates to villains, to come from the Ultimate line. The relationships that the movie Spidey faces are a bit more like the traditional comic Spidey, but the filmmakers may feel a need to make the villains "kewler" and "more hip" so the kids nowadays will "groove on" the movies. Dig?
