William Hung, Sub-genius?

As I was looking at my e-mail this afternoon, I saw that MSN was featuring an article on William Hung. (Mr. Hung is that funny Chinese guy who sang "She Bangs" at his "American Idol" audition.)

Since his Idol appearance, William has done the talk show circuit, and has made an album, and a music video.

He is quickly becoming sort of a pop-culture phenomenon. He is really using the Cheese-factor to his benefit. (I may even be tempted to get his record.)

I can see Mr. Hung's face adorning t-shirts, record covers, and stickers 20 years from now. William Hung's image may supplant that of "Bob the Sub-genius" for that very role.

I find it ironic that a show that prides itself on finding the best singers has incidently found a success with one of the "bad" singers. However, I think it was eventual with all the audition episodes, mainly filled with the "bad" singers. When I saw him on AI, I just burst out laughing.

well i'm a very optimistic and nice person but this is ridiculous. what has happen to music and art these days. i mean much respect for having the balls to go for it but it's a disgrace to the art of singing and performing. there is no telling how many good, genuine, do it for the music kind of people there are out there who can't get a record deal, but this guy who can't sing for shit gets one. music has become a fucking joke and it is really sad. it makes me sick!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me guess: you're a frustrated performer yourself.

There will always be people who are "famous for being famous." This time it is a guy who can't really sing.

It really does baffle me that people are into this guy. Someone he's got them hooked. Perhaps he is even the inspiration for a new show I just read about that is coming to the WB network. Its called Superstar USA or something like that. But its the anti-Idol because the winners will be those who sing the worst. The problem I see with this is that someone can more easily sing bad than they can sing good. Even a good singer can sing bad. I guess at least some of the rejects from Idol can have a showcase but I don't like the idea of rewarding bad talent. It sends the wrong message I think. Not to mention excruciating to watch/listen to I would think. I mean the bad auditions are laughable on Idol, but I wouldn't turn into a show purposely to just hear bad singing and laugh at the people.
Idol has its shows with bad singers, but its not a whole series.

hey jamie,,,that was clever,,,but if you know anything about teh church of the sub-genius, it is all about bob, and slack. i doubt william hung will ever replace that...it would kind of be like mel gibson replacing christ for the christians.

maybe i'm wrong,,,i dunno,,,i'm just gonna go create some slack for myself or something, lol.........take care:)
