Kirby Puckett died yesterday as a result of a stroke. He was only 45 years-old.  That's pretty young!  Like most Minnesota Twins fans, I have good memories from Kirby Puckett's playing career.

Game six of the 1991 World Series against the Atlanta Braves was the most exciting game that I have ever been to (or seen on television for that matter).  -The next night was pretty fantastic too by the way.

Puckett's catch and home run, coupled with Scott Erickson's extra-gutty pitching performance (that guy had nothing left!) kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole game.  Fifteen years later, I still vividly remember the ups-and-downs of that game.

The coverage of Kirby Puckett's death on local radio (WCCO) brought two of the on-air talents to tears last night (I really doubt that either of these two were faking it), as well as a number of guests on the various programs.  It says something about a sports star when (usually) unshakable news readers and talk-show hosts spontaneously lose their composure on the air.

Bye bye Kirby Puckett.

Never was a Twins fan, but we all knew Kirby Puckett (and the Union Gap according to Chris Berman).  He was the kind of player you hated to play against, but loved to watch.

Iagree with Dr. Guy. While I'm not a Twins fan, as I stated on my article about it, as a diehard baseball fan, my blog would be incomplete without mentioning Puckett's passing.

He was one hell of a player. Loved to watch him play eventhough he ripped the heart out of us Braves fans. Still, he was a great player and a hall of famer taken away way to soon.

RIP Kirby Puckett

Kirby Pucket was absolutley awesome. No matter who your favorite team is, Kirby Puckets infectous smile and personality stole your heart. It was sad to lose him in baseball, but to him forever is unbievable.

WOW!  I know you are older, but while I do admire Puckett, I dont put him in Gerhigs class.  But each was great and (please let them be) pure by today's standards.

"Pride of the Yankees" is one of the few movies my wife can put on if she wants to see me cry.
