Tonight the final twelve contestants were announced. Beginning next week, the show will move to a bigger stage, and the theme weeks will begin. (I am looking forward to the final round, because from this point on, it will get easier to recap each show. )

Of course to get to the final twelve, four contestants had to be eliminated. Those four were:

Kinnik Sky had a difficult time getting the audience to care about her. Either a sensational song some time during the competition, or more interview time to get her nice personality over may have helped.

Ayla Brown (one of my favorites) seemed to have been missing some sort of "TV charisma". I am sad to see her go, because I am sure that she would have improved from week to week. Of course, Ayla never had a chance to win it all, so keeping her in would have delayed the inevitable.

Ayla's final song choice was interesting, as it portends her elimination. "Unwritten" is a "This is the first day of the rest of your life" kind of song. A perfect sentiment for an eliminated contestant. (You know: since Ayla's performance two days ago, I have listened to Natasha Bedingfield's song a bunch of times. I really like her as a singer.)

Will Makar -one of my early favorites- wasn't able to hit a homerun either. He may have shown some serious limitations with his singing had he stayed on longer.

Gedeon McKinney's elimination was a slight surprise. He may have had a few more weeks left in him. I think that he was a bit weak in the "cool" department.

With that, we now have our Final Twelve (in no particular order):

1. Chris Daughtry

2. Kevin Covais

3. Bucky Covington

4. Taylor Hicks

5. Elliot Yamin

6. Ace Young

7. Paris Bennett

8. Lisa Tucker

9. Melissa McGhee

10. Katharine McPhee

11. Kellie Pickler

12. Mandisa

"Tune in" this weekend when I do my annual "handicap the Idols" blog.

Sneak Preview:

Kevin Covais 120-1: The longest of longshots. This likable long man will ride the "John Stevens vote" for a few weeks longer than he should, and then will put us all out of our misery. (We don't mind him now, but the howls will start sooner-or-later.)

I thought Kevin should have gone home...Gideon deserved to be in it so much more than he did. Also, I was glad the audience went against Simon and decided to vote Melissa in...I enjoy her voice and singing so much more than Ayla's (although I did feel bad for Ayla when she began to cry).

We'll see how this group of 12 does now that the stakes are getting higher.

I agree with that. I felt bad that she was sad, but I thought Melissa was better.

I also agree that Kevin should have left and Gideon be in it for a few more.

I loved the teaser for your sneak preview blog.

I am really unhappy that Ayla couldn't in.

I'm one of those people who loves trills and runs and stuff in singing, so I really enjoyed Ayla control. It just shows that singing really well doesn't really mean that much compared to Charisma. Although those that are Charisma only peters out near the beginning of the competition on the big stage.

Did Ayla have less Charisma than Carrie? The one major thing that carried Carrie through was her amazing voice which Ayla doesn't have. Ayla just couldn't get the audience to love her enough.

I feel sorry for Will. He isn't a bad singer, but he just has a very average voice - not unique or distinctive. Unfortunately, it's one of those things he can never do anything about.

My fav now are Katharine and Taylor. Maybe not to win, but performances I enjoy.
