Hello there friends!

My wife and I have just finished watching tonight's episode of American Idol. It was an interesting one, even though the performances in general were not all that special.

I am changing the format of my weekly recaps. It turned out that as I was spending so much time writing critiques of each of the performances, I was losing what I liked most about the show. I enjoy just watching the people sing, and listening to the judges.

A few miscellaneous comments about tonight's show:

The biggest problem about the annual "tribute to Motown" shows is that I don't particularily care for the music.

After Simon was heckled for telling the truth about John Stevens (he's awful,) the audience seemed to quiet down for Simon's critiques for the rest of the show. I have a feeling that the staff at the studio warned the audience against disrupting the judges. I REALLY wish that Simon had been able to get out his point that John could have just saved Camile from getting voted-off the show.

The audience is too quick to "boo" Simon or Randy whenever they tell the truth. That kind of behavior in the audience makes one embarassed to be an American sometimes.

What's the deal with the celebrity judges? They're more often "miss" than "hit." They are very rarely critical of anyone, and I don't know whether they ever give any advice. The only two celebrity judges who I enjoyed were Gladys Knight, and Neil Sedaka.

I could have sworn that I saw Julia DeMato in the audience. Did anyone else see her? If you have the show on tape, she was shown applauding Diana's and Jennifer's performances. We watched it back here at home to disputed results. (My wife is adamant that it ISN'T Julia. I think that it is.)

I have the feeling that Camile will get voted-off this time. She had the handicap of being first. What makes it more difficult for her to stay is that people are voting for John Stevens, regardless of how terrible he sings. (Of course I seem to vote for Camile regardless of how she does...)

Of course, I know that Camile has a good performance or two in her. John has nothing.

Who did well tonight: Amy Adams, Diana DeGarmo, Fantasia Barrino, George Huff, Jasmine Trias, LaToya London

Who did so-so tonight: Jennifer Hudson

Who did poorly tonight: Camile Velasco, John Stevens, and Jon Peter Lewis

Jamie is voting for: Amy Adams and Camile Velasco
Kazuko is voting for: Amy Adams and Jasmine Trias

I Liked Jasmine and LaToya tonight, although no ones performance blew me away. Jon Stevens was HORRIBLE! I don't know why he is still there. Blah!!

That's my aim sn if you want to message me cause i love talking about American Idol, but anyway, i'm new here and i've been enjoying your writing.
Yes that was def. Julia DeMato in the audience, i new it was her from the first shot. There seem to be a lot of cameos this season.
I agree with your rant on the audience, they should applaud when the judges finish their statement (especially when they have an on the good/bad side comment) and it is there for the contestants, they need to hear the critique, it's part of the biz, they need to learn how to take it, cause if they can't handle Simon, how are they gonna handle record execs and the media?
I also agree with your assessment on the contestants cept i have a few opinions:
Amy Adams: Cute, fun, and a sweet voice, should def. sign with a country label.
Diana DeGarmo: She is the typical talent show stage performer, she has a good voice, but i thought she sounded horrible tonight, and she is too choreographed, just not letting things flow naturally.
Fantasia Barrino: I'm not seeing what everyone else sees, i mean she is ok and will have a def. record contract with or without winning, to me she is the Clay of this year, she doesn't need to win AI anymore, she's got the exposure.
George Huff: Nice soulful voice, and just think about it, he wasn't even supposed to be there, and look how he is showing he deserves to be there
Jasmine Trias: Nice voice, but to me it seems she is picking songs that aren't working for her, she keeps trying to show that she can go an upper register, but she is there yet vocally, she should keep the register she had when she sang Inseparable.
LaToya London: Good singer, just not (as Simon would say) doing cartwheels over her.
Jennifer Hudson: fun person and good voice, she's just still all over the place with her song choices.
Camile Velasco: I love her voice, but she just keeps hanging on everytime, and she looks really silly with those semi nervous leg moves she does, she tries putting hard edges on ballads that she sings.
John Stevens: I love love his voice (i am a big big band and swing fan) but wow, he looked and sounded like that was the first time he took the stage in his life, i was hoping that they would do a big band week before he would get voted off (cause it's been two weeks of r&b type music already) but with this perf. it's either him or Cam.
Jon Peter Lewis: I love his voice, but he keeps going back and forth on the song choices, sometimes good, other times bad, he isn't consistent enough, but i would love to see him go all the way.

Thanks for taking the time to read; sorry i rambled on too long lol,
Jen.
