After last night's show, I was certain that either Elliott or Taylor would be going home.  Both of those two performed reasonably well last night, but I figured that their elimination was an inevitability en route to a Katharine and Chris final.

Surprisingly, it was Chris who was sent home. (With Elliott and Taylor being the top two.)  Tonight's result was probably the most surprising one in series history.

What went wrong?  Chris wasn't doing anything new from week to week.  I doubt that many men were buying into his act. (I wrote yesterday that I don't like to look at him.) Also (and probably most importantly), Taylor and Elliott really seem to have captured the imagination of segments of the audience.

Taylor has some HUGE fans among people I know.  Elliott has developed into a "lovable underdog" type.

Now I wonder who will join Katharine in the finals. . . Will she even make it?

Personally I can't stand Elliot. He has a good voice, but it isn't idle material that he sings. Its all boring songs that nobody knows. I'm glad Chris is gone though since I never cared for his screaming style of singing. He was better when he kept it more in check. Taylor does well in his niche, but I don't believe he has much range. Despite Katherine's tendency to pick songs not suited for her style of singing, I think she is by far the best singer and deserves to win it. Though to be sure she is lucky to have survived this week as she sang pretty poorly.
I think the final should be Katherine and Taylor, two different styles.

I'm disappointed, but it's to Chris' benefit anyway. The American Idol thing comes with a lot of restrictions on the winner and not as much money as he can probably get putting out a record on his own.

He's the only one of this season's contestants whose album I would actually buy. And he is SMOKIN' FRICKIN' HOT.

I'd like to see Katherine do movies or Broadway or something. She is very, very beautiful and has a nice personality and a great voice (although I don't know if her style is marketable). I definitely think she has a future in entertainment.

Taylor needs to be gone. Yuck.

I was really disappointed Chris left. He didn't deserve to go. Plus, I was really hoping for a Taylor/Chris finale.

Now, it's probably going to be Taylor/Elliot. May the best singer win!

What the .....?!?

Popularity contest are just that...Simon is probably ready to quit the Idol thing now that the most marketable contestant is gone...Kat and Taylor in the finals, one goes broadway and the other goes Blues...neither goes caa-ching at the music store.

Man...watching that was like watching someone get a band-aid ripped off.

I don't know. I think Tex had it right. After the first season, whoever is in the top 2 through 5 usually is more succesful. So he won in that aspect.

Katherine doesn't deserve to be there, even she knows it. Watch the show back and you can see it on her face from the very moment they pan over to the contestants. Katherine is a great singer but she cracks under the pressure over and over.

This is probably a good thing for Chris but he is still tied to Idol for a certain period of time. I think one of two things happened. There were some serious auto-dialers out there swaying the odds of the competition or Chris just simply alienated a lot of his major fan base by singing Elvis the way it should be sung.

Just read where Fuel has offered Chris their Front man position

Can't post when joeuser is down because I'm an anonymouse user. Seems like its down a lot this year.

Taylor and Elliot were amazing that night. They both stepped up so to speak, which overshadowed Chris consistent (same sounding) performances. Chris is definitely much better than Katherine, but I think she pulled through because she has that much more charisma and it doesn't hurt to be gorgeous either. Like others have mentioned, Chris is actually better off because I really can't see him doing an American Idol type album.
Katherine could still win this but I believe she is trying too hard. She's working the audience too much and she tries to do too much with her vocals. Last year, Carrie Underwood won through vocals alone as she has minimal charisma although she was pretty. Katherine can be that but she just need to concentrate on just singing. We have such a diverse group of performers this year that I think it accounts for the shock results. All of them are good in their own way and no one is really a favourite.

Next week will be very interesting. Personally, I think it's high time that we have another male idol.

Again, thanks for the update and recap Jamie.
