Hey there friends.

I hope that the day was good for you. My wife and I had a nice day. We visited the immigration office to get my wife's green card extended. After that, we had a nice lunch at a Vietnamese restaraunt. Once we got home, we put up our koinobori (Japanese carp streamers on a flagpole.) -I will post pictures of the koinobori once the wind picks up. They're not so impressive when they lay flaccid.

We finished our daily activities in time to watch the final nine contestants on American Idol. Tonight's theme was Elton John songs.

The bad thing about Elton John songs are that they're nearly impossible to sing well. With this theme, we were almost certainly guaranteed to hear a bunch of well-known songs sung poorly. The good thing about Elton John night is that he is "too big of a star" to sit in with the judges, meaning that we didn't have to bear with listening to a "celebrity judge."

There were some good, average, and poor performances tonight.

Good:

Fantasia Barrino: She's always good. I have to question her earrings. They reminded me of the scene in "There's Something About Mary," when Ben Stiller opened his hotel room door with something special hanging on his ear.

George Huff: He is nearly my favorite contestant. Once I am done with writing this, I will go vote for him.

Jasmine Trias: She sounded fine on television. The judges didn't think that she did so well. She must have sounded different in the studio.

LaToya London: She is really starting to catch on. I liked Elton John's comment about how stupid the viewing public is to put her into the bottom three. (Hello John Stevens.)

Average:

Camile Velasco: Maybe she should be under "poor," but she's my favorite. I can't bee too harsh of a critic. It looks like she's improving her performances bit-by-bit.

Diana DeGarmo: I liked her clothes. She can be really cute on television if she's made-up right. I don't really see America "falling in love" with her. That's too bad. I like her!

Jennifer Hudson: The judges really liked her performance. I don't really get her.

Poor:

Jon Peter Lewis: Blah. Simon was right about him needing singing lessons.

John Stevens: He stinks it up every week. I wonder whether William Hung could out-perform him. Stevens has one note that he sings, and occasionally it is on-key Simon's Ed Wood analogy was pretty funny.

Who do we think will get voted-off?
Jamie: Diana DeGarmo will, although John Stevens should.
Kazuko: John Stevens (possibly a reaction from last week's results.)

Who are we voting for?
Jamie: George Huff and Camile Velasco
Kazuko: George Huff

*********Tomorrow is my birthday. I turn the "big 32." I don't know what the big plans will be. I think that I will get photos taken for my son's and my passports, as well as head out to the county office to pick up applications for them. (I am actually looking forward to looking like the guy in my passport again. -I don't have the mullet anymore, plus I have gained weight in the past ten years.)

I am actually reading your blog before the show this time. I won't tomorrow because it will spoil the outcome. I love this show too. I can't explain it but I do. It is the huge topic every Wednesday and Thursday mornings at work.
