Tonight's auditions in Seattle seemed to go just as poorly as the ones in Minneapolis.  At the end of the show it was announced that only 14 contestants from Seattle were sent on to the next round.  That isn't many!

Of those who weren't selected, my favorite has to have been white-haired, gold sheen shirt-wearing Darwin "Mischa" Reedy.  Despite an interesting appearance and questionable singing, I was impressed at her graciousness in rejection.  It would be nice if more of the rejected contestants would show such humility.  (Of course they probably aren't shown so much on television, are they?)

Those who made it:

Thomas Daniels: He of the big afro and the nice voice showed that the third time at an Idol audition was a charm.  It is a little surprising that a repeat entrant would get selected.  I wonder what went wrong the first two times, as this audition was quite good.

Blake Lewis:  Spikey haired, beat-box champion.  Kind of a so-so audition, but he somehow made it through.  I wonder whether he'll be on TV for more than a few seconds at a time during the Hollywood round.

Shyamali and Sanjaya Malakar:  Very presentable young people.  Nice personalities, and reasonably good voices.  I think that the young man has a chance to go a bit farther than the girl, but she could surprise us.

Rudi Cardenas: Venezuelan who sang "Open Arms".  Simon wasn't in love with this guy, but he was sent on to the next round.  I understand (a little) what Simon didn't see in him, but I am curious as to why he was so definitely against this guy.

Anna Kearns:  Tall lady from Texas.  Sang RESPECT.  Big voice in an equally large frame.  This lady has an appeal to her.  I think she's pretty.

Jordin Sparks: 16 year-old.  Seems like a good singer.  One of the few we've seen so far that seems destined for the top twelve.

GO ANNA KEARNS!

Shovelheat, I admire your enthusiasm.

I am not sure however whether this Anna Kearns is any good. Just not enough information. We shall certainly see. At this point, I am tentatively rooting for her.

Speaking of "rooting for" someone: My wife and I were watching some of Clay Aiken's American Idol 2 clips on YouTube. I wonder whether there will ever be another contestant with his appeal. (I mean his albums aren't all that impressive, but he was a fantastic contestant.)

Jamie,

While, I vowed that last year was my last season watching, I can still read you.

I'm glad to see you back.

I find these early rounds almost too painful to watch. The auditioners who are just there for fun and know they are not great are one thing. But the people who really believe that they have talent, watching their dreams die is heartbreaking. I mean it's easy to sit back and snicker but it takes some cajones to put yourself out there to be ridiculed by the entire nation. And I think I can sing (in my car) but singing a capela is really hard. And some people are just really nervous or having an off day and that's just it, it's over. I am almost to the point that I don't even want to watch until there is a top ten.

Was she the one who's mom looked like Joey Ramone?

Joey Ramone!

Beauty comment! If I could give you "reputation points" for that comment, I would!
