The Idol Memphis auditions were aired last night.  For the first time in this young season, we were presented with contestants who were memorable, and above-average in likability.

Sundance Head:  Looks like Sundance will be the first fan-favorite of the season.  He sang very well, and he seems to be a very nice young man.  My biggest concern is that since he has a famous parent, portions of the audience may not relate to (and vote for) him.  (Paris Bennett, Ozzie Smith Jr. . . . )

Still, I think there's a strong chance that America will "fall in love" with this guy.

Looks a bit like Jerry Lawler.  (Body type and the beard, also he is from Memphis.)

Danielle McCulloch: looks like Pia Zadora, and can sing reasonably well.  I like her, but I wonder whether we'll be seeing much more of her on television.

Sean Michel: the guy who looks like Castro-gone-hippie.  He is a really good singer with an unnecessary gimmick.  Hopefully he cleans up well in time enough to be taken seriously.

Was anyone expecting this guy to sing well?  Initially I thought this guy would be just another clown.

Melinda Doolittle: the mousey, nervous background singer.  She seems to lack confidence, but shines when she is singing.  That is so interesting how that happens, isn't it?

Melinda emotes very well, and I am sure that she'll have her fans along the way.  Eventually, however, I think that a lack of confidence will make it easier for fans not to vote for her.  A contestant needs a certain amount of charisma to hold on to their votes.

Philip Stacy: the bald guy whose wife just had a baby.  He sang some nice notes in his audition.  Seemed like a "bubble pick".  Unless he has something else up his sleeve we may just be catching bits-and-pieces of him in Hollywood, and then that'll be it.

Watching the show, I wonder how many people in "Elvis costume" were not shown on camera.  When programs go to either Memphis or Las Vegas, there always seems to be a high number of people dressed like Elvis.  Either the citizens of Memphis were showing restraint, or the show must have been heavily edited.
