So this morning (or last night) as I was logging in to MSN Messenger, I came across a "featured" video.  I saw a music video for the song "Fidelity" by a young lady named Regina Spektor.

After watching the video, I thought to myself: "Meh.  This song is okaaay, but not great."  I did have the sneaking suspicion that it is the type of song that tends to grow on a person.  Sure enough, I caught myself humming the song earlier this evening.  They got me!  I like the song.  Click here to listen to it for yourself on Google video.  Click here if you prefer YouTube.

So, let's talk Idol!

Tonight's show from Birmingham, Alabama brought out a nice batch of friendly and humble people.  Watching the show, I thought that I may like to visit that place some day.  Is it possible that people in the South are more polite than people in the North?

The Auditions:

Katie Bernard:  Baby voice, came with her husband.  Katie sang with a really affected voice.  One may wonder how she really sings.  She made it through, so we'll have a chance to see for ourselves (unless she gets cut early.)

Tatiana McConnico: 17 year-old performing arts high school student.  Pretty and petite.  Tatiana looks like she can sing, and she did well enough to make it on to the next round.  I will be mildly surprised it if she makes it through the next round.

Bernard Williams: sang Michael Jackson fairly well.  He had a nice tone to his voice.  Bernard seems like a likeable sort, but he seems to be missing the "X" factor.  Maybe he'll turn it up a notch later.  Regardless, I kind of liked him.

Jamie Lynn Ward: country girl with a paralyzed daddy, and lives with her granny.  She was able to get most of her life story out on camera within a few sentences.  Pretty, charming, disarming personality.  Jamie Lynn has a certain appeal.  Maybe a little too Kellie Picklerish?

Chris Sligh: MOST MEMORABLE AUDITION OF THE SERIES SO FAR.  The supposed Jack Osbourne look-alike.  Charming, witty, friendly, and a good singer.  I really liked this guy and his dry sense of humor.  I have a feeling that a lot of potential voters picked up on this guy's charm today, and he has the potential to go a long way in the competition.  My early choice for "America's Favorite."  REMEMBER THIS NAME.

That's it!  Nice!  A one hour show, with not many of the featured singers making it through to the next round.  Relaxing and easy-to-write-about!  Tomorrow is Los Angeles.

Thanks for the link to the song, Jamie. She kinda reminded me of a low-key (and happy, we don't get that very often) Fiona Apple. I kinda liked it; I'll have to check her out.

Fiona Apple is a good comparison. I was kind of thinking she reminded me of Bjork, or maybe Tori Amos. The other songs of hers that are out there seem pretty good too.

Bjork

The quirkiness is definitely Bjork, but her throaty alto made me think Fiona all the way.

I'll have to listen up a bit.
