Tonight's episode of American Idol is over. It was the "profile show." Each contestant had a short sit-down interview with Ryan Seacrest, followed by a performance of each contestant's favorite song to-date.
The "profile show" is an important event in the season. It gives the contestants a chance to win over some new fans through the strength of their personalities. In a sense, tonight's show may end up combining into tomorrow night's show to create a two-night result of the voting. All contestants needed a strong showing tonight.
Last year, Clay Aiken aquitted himself really well in the "profile show," which helped to maintain his thrust into the final two.
Who were tonight's winners?
I think Diana DeGarmo was able to charm a lot of viewers. Like I have said before, she is a lot like Dolly Parton. A big part of Dolly Parton's appeal is that she has a kind and bubbly personality. Diana can go a long way if they continue to let her talk in order to get herself over.
George Huff didn't really help his own cause. He appears to be a lovable and nice guy. Happy and friendly. But it seems that he doesn't really have many answers to the questions that Ryan asks him. Doesn't seem like there's a lot going on upstairs.
Fantasia Barrino was interesting. I am not sure whether she helped her cause or hurt it. It seemed kind of weird to me that she came out barefoot.
Jasmine Trias- Speaking of feet: Jasmine had on a really nice pair of shoes, didn't she? (Were they those "Bruno Magglio"s that I hear so much about on TV?) She's pretty. The more time she gets to spend smiling on television, the better it will be for her in the long run.
Latoya London was okay. She is a really pretty lady with a throwback look. (She wouldn't look out of place on "Solid Gold.") Of all the contestants, she was the most well-spoken. The biggest problem with Latoya is that I think that America likes its idols to be single. Her having a significantly older husband may seem a bit dodgy to the voting public. It will be really important for her to continue delivering knockout performances from week to week.
Tonight's big winner: Probably Diana
Maybe helped their cause: Fantasia and Jasmine
Holding pattern: Latoya
Needs a good performance tomorrow: George
Most liberal use of the term "regardless": Fantasia (Hell, at least she didn't say "irregardless.")
