Tonight's episode of American Idol has just finished.  We heard Jasmine, Diana, and Fantasia sing: one song of their choice, one song of the judges choice, and one song chosen by Clive Davis (music producer.  Looks like Gorilla Monsoon.)

The performers:

First up tonight was Jasmine Trias.  Jasmine had nice hair and clothes this evening (per usual.)  Her songs however were a bit underwhelming.

The judges really don't seem to want to see her in the final two.  They didn't have much complimentary to say to her this evening.  It is pretty hard to root against such an -apparently- sweet girl.  (Grade: C)

Fantasia Barrino was second.  Her three songs were pretty good, even if they weren't necessarily my cup of tea.  She is definitely talented.  (I don't like the ad-lib fills that she puts in her songs however.)

Fantasia is obviously the judges favorite.  It was a bit hard to listen to all of their gushing.  It seems like she is being "pushed" too hard on us.  She is definitely good, but I don't think that she is more marketable than Clay, Ruben, Kelly, or Kimberly Locke.  (Too bad that Kimberly Locke didn't wait until this year to enter the contest.)  I think that the judges raving so much about her will either cost her some votes, or keep people from voting in the first place.  (That said, since her performances were really good, her grade is: A)

Finally we come to Diana DeGarmo: I wasn't a big fan of Diana's hairstyle tonight.  Assuming that she makes it into the final two, I hope that they can fix that.  (I think that only Anne Jillian can pull that one off.)

I liked all three of Diana's songs tonight.  I think that she is a pretty versatile singer who can cover a bunch of song styles.  Once I am done writing this, I think that I'll vote for her.  (Grade for Diana: B+)

If all goes as expected, we will see Diana and Fantasia in the final two next week.  It will be Diana's versatility vs. Fantasia's charisma and presence.  I wonder who America will vote for.  (I really have no idea, however I am leaning toward Diana.)

Random thought for the night: Canadian Idol Guy isn't much to look at, is he?

I wasn't really impressed with any of them tonight. I agree about the effusive praise being heaped on Fantasia. Nothing special for me, though she did a solid job as always. Again I was missing Latoya tonight. Diana did all right. I think she finished the night much better than she began, which is good. Don't think I am going to vote tonight, no one really connected with me.

well, you know,,the problem with the show now,,, is that the judges are trying to influence America on how to vote because they really wanted Fantasia and Latoya to be the finalist and now they are in hot water because as us American's we seemed to be in control of how things will end..

on a personal note,, I think Diana will win.. only because the show has been geared toward the younger population (11-18).

It really does not matter at this point anymore.. the final two will always be seen everywhere regardless.. like the situation with Clay and Ruben!!! Ruben won but Clay is out on the spot light.. so the same thing will happen hear again,, If Fantasia is second runner up.

It's amazing how the judges tend to throw caution to Jasmine's performance night after night. Throughout the competition there's been various occasions that the judges tend to use other aspects in judging for an American idol, and if that's so, a person like Fantasia who is a single Mom at age 25 doesn't fit into my vision as an American idol. Let's just see who get's voted in.

Fantasia's voice is to whiney IMO, I could not listen to a whole CD of her voice. I think Diana is okay, and Jasmine is okay. Jasmine has always been my favorite though. I think it is important to remember that it is not "Who is America's best singer" and It is "American Idol". So the person has to be more than a good singer, they have to appeal to the audiance on another level.
I think Jasmine appeals to the audiance on that level. Those voting for her are not basing their vote only on singing ability. (as evident last week). She has more appeal as a cute, fashionable young woman than a single mom in her later 20's.

You know, I actually enjoyed all of them last night. I think Simon might have pissed off Hawaii again though. It will be interesting to see what happens.
