The results' show is over.  After a season of ups and downs, Fantasia Barrino ended the evening as the new American Idol.

Tonight's show was done very well.  It was a two-hour show.  The first half-hour was a "pregame" show, and then the 90-minute show itself was a good showcase of the entire season.  I think that tonight's episode of American Idol was the best one (and most dramatic) that I had ever seen.

The "pregame show"

1.  There were backstage interviews with Diana, Fantasia, and the judges.  I thought that the interview in Simon's dressing room was really humorous.  I liked the entire clothesrack of black t-shirts.  It reminded me of Batman's closet.  (Except there are Batman uniforms in Batman's closet.)

2.  They showed shots of fans in stadiums in Georgia and North Carolina.  Clay handled NC, and Kimberly Caldwell did Georgia.  *Kimberly Caldwell has really found her niche as a "man-on-the-street"-type interviewer.  She'll have to give up the cigarettes before she starts to sound like Suzanne Pleschette though.

3.  There were "red carpet" segments, where celebrites in attendance were shown entering the theater.  (Henry Winkler was shown many times during the show, but his name wasn't ever in graphics.  Not even an "Aaaaaaaay!")

4.  LaToya, George, and Jasmine sang songs.  (George's song was teriffic!  LaToya should have won the show.)

The show itself:

(Our six month-old baby loves the American Idol theme song.  As soon as he hears it, he drops everything and gazes at the TV.  As soon as the song is over, he goes back to doing what he was doing.)

5.  Tamyra Gray started the show with the National Anthem.  (The producers of the show just love her, don't they?)

6.  Diana and Fantasia sang with Ruben and Kelly Clarkson.  (Ruben seems out of place with the three lady singers.  I don't think that he has as much appeal as the other three.  -I think that Clay Aiken would have fit-in better.)

7.  They went back to the stadiums, and the final show was recapped.

8.  Kelly sang a song.  It was okay.  Pretty low-key for a big show.

9.  There was a group song with the final twelve contestants.  (Camile was there.  I missed her the most. The show hadn't been the same for me after she was eliminated.  Matthew Rogers looks silly doing those group dances, doesn't he?)

10. Ruben sang a song.  I wonder who was on his shirt.  Was it Rickey Smith?

11.  Diana and Fantasia sang songs individually.  Both performers' songs turned out well.

12.  Diana and Fantasia sang a duet.

13.  The judges had their say, and the results were read.  Fantasia wins.

All-in-all, a really good show.  I will be really excited once the next season of Idol starts next year.  Thanks for reading.  Bookmark my website and see what I come up with next!

I haven't tuned into AI since the first season. However, seeing Kelly Clarkson and the group songs reminded why I liked it. Kelly's performance of "Beautiful Disaster" was restrained (for once.) I thought it was a nice change. The group together - wow! I was impressed. They sounded fabulous and in key. However, I was disappointed with the results. Diana's performance of "I Believe (?)" was mature, for her young age. But Fantasia seemed to follow the current standard of "shouting with tone." I wished I had seen Tamrya, though. Isn't something that it seems like Justin Guarini's run seems to have been forgetten?

Isn't something that it seems like Justin Guarini's run seems to have been forgetten?

AHA!  I knew that I forgot something!

There were a few times during the season while watching the show that I said to my wife, "It looks like Justin is being written-off."

Between the times that the thought has occurred to me, and the times that I write my weblog, I always forget about that.

Josh has the "Jo Jo smile."  (Jo Jo from WB Superstar USA.)

And when I say, "Josh" I mean "Justin."

(I can't find an edit-button on that last post.)

I'm not really surprised, but I'm disappointed. It was a really close vote, though....I heard Ryan say this morning that the vote margin was less than one percent. Diana fought the good fight, right up to the end, and I agree that she will most likely have the same success as Clay has had--she's too popular to just completely drop off the radar screen, IMO.

I loved the show last night and I even loved the results. I think that there will be more than a few of the contestants on the show that will do well on their own as well.
Great job this season Jamie.
Can't wait till AI4!

There is a Detroit area club having an "Accent Idol" contest.  Sounds like a hoot!  The ad has a bunch of people singing with Indian, Russian, etc accents.  Must have been inspired by William Hung.
