Plus two cute baby pictures of the little one feeding himself.

Hey there friends.  I hope that you are all having a happy weekend.

We're doing fine at my house.

Yesterday was the last day of school for the kids.  When they come back next year there will be lots of changes for the kids that I work with.  Instead of me working in three schools, my program will be based in one school.  (Kids will have to move.)  The kids with whom I will continue to work will have more intense service from myself and my assistant.

I am not necessarily convinced that moving the kids is the best idea, but it will be a good thing for the students who will move.

As my title says, my vegetable garden is coming along.  I have a couple of tomato plants that are flowering, and one has started to sprout fruit.  The corn, shiso, cucumbers, jalapenos, beans, and green peppers are also growing well.  I will be so excited when we'll finally have a chance to eat our vegetables.

Today my friends Nancy and Rob moved from their apartment in Minneapolis to a house in Saint Paul.  They've got themselves a nice house.  I am sure that they'll enjoy the comforts of owning their own home.

Congratulations to Rob and Nancy on the house and the upcoming baby.

Recently we have been feeding Kenny rice crackers that are specially made for babies.  (They were sent to us from Japan.  I don't think that they're sold here in the US.)  It is really cute to watch him eat, as well as listen to him make crunchy sounds, even though he doesn't have teeth.

That's all for today!  Thanks for reading

Oooh, I'm really jealous, Jamie.  I want so bad to have a veggie garden and the military won't let me.  I have have a tub garden on the deck, but it's just not the same, dig?

Baby Kenny is getting so big!  Sitting up all by himself and eating finger foods..at least he likes those crackers better than the watermelon!

Why is that? The first priority when I own my own home is to grow my own veggies. It's fun and nutritious!

Why is that?

Because they don't want us digging up their lawns.  When we leave other people are going to take over our house and yard..and they might not want a veggie garden.  Besides, we've got some real losers in the military who'd dig up their entire yard and make a real mess...so as usual, the few spoil it for the many.

Growing my own veggies is something I want to do as well.  Lonesome gets a lump sum of $30,000 at his 15 year mark, and we're planning to use that to start our homsteading project with..the first thing I want to do is plot out a vegetable garden....closely followed by purchasing some chickens and planting an orchard.

Growing vegetables gets awfully interesting, doesn't it?

Up to now, my only experience has come from balcony gardening.  I grew some yummy tomatoes that way.

I had a big tub with a tomoato plant in it on my deck last year.  Grew some really nice ones.  I also had a bell pepper plant that produced nicely too.

Your vegetable garden looks great! I have my first tomato plant growing on the deck in our backyard. I hope it works out. Maybe I'll do some bell peppers, too since dharmagrl says they worked. I'm going to get some herbs as well. The "ground" gardening will start next summer.

Jamie - thanks for your help moving us into our house and for your nice post congratulating us!

Baby Kenny is delightful!!! I hope mine will be half as great.

for some reason I would tell the military to screw off and then, right after, I'd dig my garden. One could never convince me that the US military is against digging holes. Lol. Sorry Dharm. Peace.

OK now I have one for you. I have a veggie garden, and the squirrels eat my tomato's!!! I have trapped them (alive) and even relocated those trapped, but they keep eating my T's. My beans are fine, my other veggies are fine but the darn squirrels have almost made me go postal and sit with a high powered pellet gun to take the little buggers out as they approach my garden. I am going to start shooting unless someone comes up with a better solution. Anyone got any suggestions, other than feed the little tree rats???

Good thing you're not in the military then, isn't it?

Shadow....Feeding them will only encougrage them to come to your garden.  Can you put chicken wire around your T's?
