Plus comments on commercials for upcoming movies.

Well, the final episode of "WB SUperstar USA" is over.  The final three contestants: Mario, Rosa, and Jamie came through with three painful singing performances.  Following Rosa's elimination, Jamie and Mario gave us a comical duet.  In the end, Mario was sent away, and Jamie won the $100,000.

The show began with a recap of the entire season to this point.  After the recap, the three remaining contestants were shown practicing their singing with a vocal coach (Katherine Wort.)  The sessions with the vocal coach were especially funny due to the facial expressions of the coach.

Jamie's performance was first.  She came out in a really revealing outfit to sing "Respect" by Aretha Franklin.  Truth be told, this was Jamie's least-awful performance of the series.

Following Jamie, Mario treated us to a delightfully off-key version of Aerosmith's "I don't want to miss a thing."  After each of Mario's performances, he seems quite surprised to hear positive things about his singing.

Rosa came next.  She gave my favorite performance of the night.  She looked really cute, and had a good dance.  She sang the song "Bootilicious."  That song choice was especially good for Rosa because it is kind of a hip-hop/rap song.

Once Rosa was eliminated, Mario and Jamie sang a duet of the song "I had the time of my life."  The lack of harmony, accompanied with Mario's ridiculous dancing made that performance a highlight of the series.

In the end, Mario was sent away, and Jamie won the whole thing.  Once she was told that the contest was for the worst singer, she looked a bit at-a-loss.  I wouldn't say that she was upset.  I don't think that she knew how to react.

By choosing Jamie over  Mario, the show has chosen a marketable-looking girl with some camp appeal.  (If she doesn't make it as a singer, good money says that she shows up in Penthouse some day.)  Mario winning would give us a second William Hung, and there are already enough William Hungs in the world.   Jamie was a good choice to win the whole thing.

After the show, they went backstage to interview Mario and Rosa after receiving their checks for $10,000, and $5,000.  They took the joke very well, were positive, and came across as being really sweet people.  It is hard to root against folks like that.

That's it.  Another reality show has fallen by the wayside.  I wonder which one will capture my imagination next...

************Summer Movie Commercials************

During tonight's show, I saw commercials for three upcoming theatrical releases.  I saw commercials for: "White Chicks," "Spiderman 2," and "Around the World in 80 Days."

"White Chicks" looks terrible.  I wonder how that one will do.  It may be surprising, but I have a feeling that we've heard the punchlines of all the jokes that will be in the movie.

"Spiderman 2": I'm looking forward to that one.  Doctor Octopus looks pretty formidable.

"Around the World in 80 Days" seems like it would be a fun rental, something good to watch on an airplane, or something that I'd try to catch on cable.

I didn't see the season, but I did watch the end of the finale because I wanted to see their reaction to the revelation that the entire show was a prank. I'm happy it didn't end as depressing as I imagined it would, but although Jamie seems as though she could have potential, she doesn't seem to understand why she actually won (or maybe she doesn't care). Same with Rosa. And Mario seemed like a poor sport walking out right after Jamie was announced the winner (or maybe he thought that's what he was supposed to do).

I wish Jamie well. I like her ditziness and total obliviousness. I don't want her to end up in a skanky magazine.

How was "Spiderman (I)"? Have you seen it? I haven't yet but I love Willem Dafoe so, so, so much that I have to watch it. It's unfortunate that he isn't in "2". How was he in "Spiderman"? He must show me great performance again.

Sure, Spiderman 1 was good.  It did a good job of introducing all of the characters and showing the conflict within the main character.

The biggest criticism that people have about the movie is that the fight scenes resemble a video game.

William Dafoe was fine as the Green Goblin.  He looked like the character in the comic book, so he was well-cast.

I caught the interview section with Dayna Devon, who seemed to be hiding her smirks. However, White Chicks looks offensive. If this had been made with the races reversed, there would'v been an outcry. Plus, the Wayans are just so damn annoying. I want them to get off my screen and fade into the land of obscurity.
