When I was a senior in college, I would spend a lot of time playing a text-adventure MUD (multi user dungeon) game.  I can't remember how many nights were lost spent typing those goofy commands into the computer in a simulated adventure game.

That was ten years ago.

Tonight I decided to give MUDding another shot.  (There wasn't much else going on out there, and I wasn't ready for bed yet.)  I found a game, made a character, and started playing.  It seems that not much has changed.

I have a second level Half-elven warrior.  I need to figure out how to get myself a stronger weapon to begin with, otherwise it'll take too long to advance.  (I suppose that's the fun part of the game.)

I saved the game, and I logged-off.  I wonder if I'll go back there again to pick up where I left off.  I probably will.  I have good MUD memories!

I played Ancient Anguish for a good long while. It's another MUD

I still log in a play every once and awhile if I'm really bored. Normally I can't even remember the names/passwords of my characters, so I end up playing a new character for a bit ...

which MUD did you play?

The old MUD that I used to play was Avatar, from a service named Walrus.

The one that I started yesterday is another Avatar program.  You can find it at : http://www.outland.org

My nickname is Chipper.

MUDing is the ultimate in geek. i love it! im not a huge video game person but mudding is great. it can be a plot-thick rpg or a glorified chat room with different ways to 'kill' time. yes, i used a pun. and im glad to see other people havent forgotten the ancient relic. the funny thing is, a friend of mine MUDs a good amount and he went to start up again after not for awhile and he computer was too good to play. he had to get a program that dumbed it down. ahh....good times.

Yeah, and even fancy new interfaces are available for telneting into these muds that make it a lot easier to get around

I think ZMud is the application I used last to get into my old MUD. It generates maps and such, and stores directions to places for you... for example instead of having to remember that to get to The Woods Of Doom was n,n,n,n,n,n,n,n,e,e,e,e,e,e,s,s,s,s,w, you can just store that information in the application and it'll fire the directions off for you

Good times
