The Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament is over.  The winner of the whole thing was Yokozuna Asashoryu.  It was a fun tournament to watch.

(As a side note: I read in the newspaper that Aerosmith's Joe Perry was at the sumo matches on the same day that my family was.  Had I known, I would have kept an eye open for him.)

As well as watching the tournament on television, I enjoyed playing a fantasy football-type game on line.  Link  (My "ring name" is Daijobu.)  Each day I choose ten wrestlers.  If one of my wrestlers wins, I receive one point.  Each day I am matched-up against a different player, which ever player gets more points on any given day earns a "win" for the day.

In my first tournament, I accomplished a "katchikoshi" meaning that I won more times than I lost (my record was 8-7.)  Earning kachikoshi means that I will be ranked higher for the next tournament in September.  That'll be exciting!

Miscellaneous notes:

The other day I brought Kenny to see my friend Sumi at the barber shop.  I was happy to see her.  (I always enjoyed getting my haircut when I lived in Japan.  It was one of my best opportunities to practice speaking Japanese, plus she's really fun to talk-to.)

Today we are taking the day to relax at home.  We had a really busy weekend.  (visiting friends, going to the festival, shopping, etc.) This afternoon, we will go to the rental shop to get a couple of videos to watch and some CDs to copy.  If we can find some cute baby books for Kentaro, we'll get them too.

Tonight I am looking forward to eating some red chili pepper chicken wings that I brought home from a Chinese restaurant.  They're really good!  They're the spiciest things that I have ever eaten comfortably.  (If I remember, I will get a picture of them and put them on here.)

Glad to see you're okay! - I saw on the news this morning there was flooding in Japan that had claimed 18 lives and thousands were evacuated - It was just a headline I saw I don't know the story or where the flooding is but I remembered that you were in Japan

Yeah, it is okay here as far as flooding goes.  It is just hotter than all-get-out.

Which was bigger news in the USA, flooding or deserter Jenkins, I wonder..

Anyway, you enjoyed Nagoya-basyo much more than I. I just came to know who won, which was the first Nagoya-basyo news of this year for me! I hadn't heard of it until then.

I hope you'll enjoy the rest of your stay in Japan.
