The best from Saturday Night Live.
Published on September 28, 2004 By Jamie Burnside In Entertainment

I am watching something on the E! channel right now.  It is a countdown of the "Top 101 moments of Saturday Night Live."

It is interesting how even though I haven't been a real avid watcher of SNL since about 1994, I still seem to have caught all of the major characters and sketches from the show.

Here's my question: who is your favorite cast member?

When I think about this I consider: Bill Murray, Dana Carvey, and then Eddie Murphy.

Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy have gone on to be HUGE stars.  Dana Carvey hasn't been as successful, but he's still done pretty well for himself.  I think that his sense of humor is too offbeat for being thrust too far into the mainstream.

(Does anyone remember the "Dana Carvey Show" on ABC?  That was awesome!  It is too bad that it didn't last so long.)

That does it.  I think that Dana Carvey was my favorite cast member.  (The other two guys aren't far behind.)

You mean the same Dana Carvey show where he played President Clinton breastfeeding dolls and puppies

I've never given much thought to my absolute favorite cast member, but I'd have to say in addition to Murray, Murphy, and Carvey, I'd say Norm McDonald would be high on my list. If for no other reason than his Bob Dole and his stint on weekend update. I absolutely loved both.

I'm a big Dana fan also...church lady rules!  I like Mike Meyers a lot also.  I think the best news anchor on SNL was Norm MacDonald.  I just loved the way that man could deliver a joke!  My favorite over all sketch actor was Phil Hartman.  I dearly miss that man.  Futurama and The Simpsons were left with a gaping hole following his untimely death.

(no silence for Gilda?)

I've been trying to think this whole time and I don't know - I haven't watched enough SNL - I think a good time to watch would have been between 1985 and 1995 (Billy Crystal, Dana Carvey, Joan Cusack, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman etc)

Most of the episodes I've seen were 2000 onwards -- I like Tina Fey

I love Will Ferell! He's my fav I think. Dana Carvey is hilarious. (Did you see Master of Disguise? ) My top three would be these two and Mike Myers. (Which Dena and I always think Myers reminds us of you Jamie)

Sometimes it scares me when he tells "my" jokes.  Mike Myers is definitely on my wavelength.  I'd have to work on my delivery and timing to be as successful as he is.  I will just stick to teaching.

I doo, too...SNL has traditionally been very male dominated, and Fey is not only an excellent performer, she's also something like the head writer.

There's so many I like... Dana Carvey, Mike Meyers, Phil Hartman Will Ferill, Chris Farley and probably many others.. But those are the only ones I remember (since those were the SNLs they showed on Comedy Central).
