Hello there! It is Sunday. That means that I have to go back to work tomorrow. So long Christmas Vacation! Thank goodness that I like my job, otherwise I would me miserable.
So you may ask: How did I spend my last day of vacation? Kazuko (my wife) and I watched a few hours of biographies on VH1. Apparently today was a special day, where young female pop soloists are featured. We watched shows on Britney Spears, Pink, Jessica Simpson, and Christina Aguilera.
Those shows on VH1 are pretty captivating. Even though I didn't really know much about any of those young ladies, I found myself really interested in the biographies. I suppose that now I feel reasonably confident that I can identify one from the other.
After this documentary marathon, I came away with a few tidbits: 1) I remember that I liked Britney Spears' Pepsi commercials. They were kind of cool. Are there going to be any more? 2) Christina Aguilera seems like an interesting character, maybe I will listen to one of her CDs some time. She's kind of pretty too. 3) Pink has an interesting early-biography. It also seems that her musical talent may give her more longevity than the average pop star. 4) Now I know who Fred Durst is. I always hear that name, but I am never quite sure what he does. -I mean I knew he was some kind of a singer. Apparently he has some sort of connection with Britney and Christina. Whoop-dee-doo, eh? (I had always suspected that he was the lead singer of Blink-182. Now I know he's from Limp Bizkit, kind of a watered-down Pantera.)
I didn't know that Jessica Simpson got married to a boy-band guy. I wonder whether that'll last. Once those boy-bands fizzle, strange things happens to their members. Although it happens, I am surprised that so many careers end with being a member of a boy-band. One would think that those sorts of bands will be a launching point of a lot more careers than they already are. I am skeptical that 98-degrees will mount a comeback, or any of the guys in the group will amount to anything behind the microphone (maybe they'll get behind-the-scenes jobs.)
Come to think of it: I saw an ad in a local newspaper that Jordan Knight was doing a show at a bar in Minneapolis around New Year's time. I wonder whatever happened to Donny Wahlberg? (He was the "bad" one, right?)
I wonder whether there's been a study showing that female pop-stars have longer careers than male pop-stars. (It does seem that way, doesn't it?) Maybe it is because the male pop stars have a harder time changing their image. The girls can get a makeover, change their hairstyle, color their hair, or do something shocking enough to get noticed. I wonder if Rickey Martin will ever make an English-language comeback...
That's all for today. Gotta dance!
