The other day while I was at the grocery store, I picked up a copy of the latest Star magazine.  The cover advertised "The 50 Most Annoying People of 2004."  On bottom left corner of the magazine, William Hung was pictured as one of this year's entrants.  Congratulations William Hung!

The fourth season of American Idol is starting in just ten days.  In "preparation" for that, my wife and I spent a few hours yesterday watching tapes from last year's Idol.  It was fun to watch the different characters and personalities develop from auditions, to Hollywood, to the top-32 round, and then to the final twelve.

Among the tapes, we were able to see William Hung's audition.  While watching, my wife and I came to an interesting realization:  As Mr. Hung was singing Ricky Martin's "She Bangs," he actually got most of the notes right.  (My wife mentioned that she bets that he would actually a reasonably good/ at least not horrible singer if he sang in Chinese.  I tend to agree with her.)

William Hung's image and bizarre dancing during the audition detracted from the fact that he actually got the notes right from that one song.  Way to go William!

I wonder whether we'll have another W.H. or another Keith in the fourth season of Idol...  Keep reading my weblog for unofficial weekly recaps of the proceedings and the aftermath.
