My wife and I were having an interesting conversation in the car today. I mentioned to her that I had seen "The Simple Life" (A TV show) for about ten minutes the other day. I told her that I found Nicole Richie to be pretty, fun, and charming.

Think about for a minute. I am as surprised as you are.

Seeing photographs of Nicole and Paris in tabloids, magazines, on television, and online, the pair seem like vapid starlets with little redeeming qualities besides their appearance. I have never been impressed with what I had seen of the girls on still shots, or during commercials. They seemed like a lot of other throw-away celebrities, destined to be a Hollywood Square at best.

That is why I was so surprised when I watched their show the other day. Nicole Richie worked to reunite a teenage boy with his girlfriend while skating at an icerink. While watching, I couldn't help but think: "You know: she is kind of pretty. She's cool too." I understood how she could be featured on a television show. There is something about her that makes a person want to see what she does on television.

I still don't know about Paris Hilton. I haven't seen her in a segment yet.

I can't agree with you on this. I have watched a few of the early shows. I always ended up feeling that these two people were taking up space and have no redeeming value at all.

I think it is a crime that with all the financial resources that they have had that they did not get an education and use their time to make the world a better place.

And if they really are educated and do have morals, why would they lower themself to be on tv acting like totally brainless fools. I also think with the bleach blond look, skimpy clotes and heavy makeup they just look cheep. Watching them I can't help but think that all the money in the world doesn't buy class.
