Our little one-year-old loves to copy mom and dad.  (That's not unusual.)  Now that he is more mobile than ever, he is able to climb up on the chair by the computer.  He loves banging on the keyboard, moving the mouse around, and clicking the buttons.

Once it seems that he's getting too excited, or the computer starts making funny noises, we have to take baby away from the computer.  Then -of course- he throws a fit.  It is really cute to see how excited he gets when he gets to play on the computer; but it isn't really a toy for a baby, is it?

But now how could you say "No" to this little guy?

Baby liked pushing the little cart at United Noodle (Asian grocery) in Minneapolis the other day.  That was cute too.

Maybe you could find an incredible cheap computer somewhere for baby? Wouldn't even have to work, just a screen, keyboard, and mouse for him to bang on. Then tell him that computer is his and not to use mom and dad's. Might work...

You could buy him one of those kiddy computers, the one that which isn't really a computer but has buttons like one and usually an LCD screen, and talks. If he's too young for that, there's those plastic ones that makes noises or play a tune when you push a button.

If he still likes to bang on your keyboard, you can unplug it - that way it doesn't affect your main computer (only your poor keyboard).

See, the baby can see through that kind of stuff. He'll probably be as interested in the fake computer as he was in his fake remote control.

I didn't even bother with a "Kid" computer....I just gave my son my old one. We sat side by side and typed.....He loved it

It also worked with the extra PS2 controller....of course, it would only fool him if we were using the other one at the same time. He knew that something should be happening on the screen when he hit the buttons, but Connor on HW's lap and "play video games" with him for hours.....

Once again I will echo Life Happens' sentiment.

Baby can see through all of that!

Yeah, my boys never fell for the unplugged or fake stuff. We just had to teach them to be gentle and supervise them the whole time. Don't let him on a laptop though! Our little one popped the shift key off in the blink of the eye and those can't be fixed. We had to get a whole new keyboard!

Toy manufacturers need to stop making toys in pretty colors and start making them in "real" colors. If the toy computer was black or grey like the real one, they might be more interested. They just don't want the stuff they are "supposed to" play with. They want the real deal just like mom and dad's.
