After tonight's episode of American Idol, the men's field and the womens' field have each been reduced to eight. One more week before we find out who the final twelve contestants are going to be.

Following last week's agonizing results' show, FOX wisely decided to cut back on the histrionics and performances. The results were announced more matter-of-factly, and I believe that tonight's show came off a lot better.

It turns out that I was half-right in my predictions that Celena Rae, Janay Castine, Joseph Murena, and Constantine Maroulis would be the contestants who were eliminated. Constantine was safe, as was Janay. Accompanying Celene Rae and Joseph Murena to elimination were David Brown and Aloha Mischeaux.

David and Aloha's eliminations were mild surprises. David left the auditions with a lot of momentum, but fell flat the more often that he was seen on television. Although Aloha had minimal exposure prior to the current round, I thought that her strong performance in week one would have earned her a lot of fans that would stick with her in week two.

Who do you think are "on the bubble" for next week? I think that Janay Castine, Scott Savol, Lindsey Cardinale, Constantine Maroulis, Travis Tucker, Amanda Avila all are in danger of being cut. I wouldn't mind seeing Mikalah go, but I have a feeling that she'll stick around for as long as John Stevens did last season.

Okay. That's all for tonight. Time to give the baby a bath!

I think the show was so much better being a half hour long. I wasn't shocked by any of the cuts.

Around here (work, neighbors and such) the thinking is that nobody cares which of the girls go. Every one seems to agree/think it will be one of the guys this year.

See ya next week.

The cuts weren't necessarily surprises, but David was the first contestant with significant TV time who was let go.

I am surprised that Travis has garnered enough support.

Who the heck is Mariah??? There is no Mariah on American Idol. Perhaps you mean Mikayla.

Yeah. I had been meaning to edit that. I noticed the mistake about a week ago.

Anyway K Preston, you're right. I wrote Mariah, but I meant Mikalah.

Thanks for posting.

Fixed it. I was wondering whether anyone would call me on it before I fixed my mistake.
