The other day my wife and I were at Wal-Mart.  We were in the record section, and we listened to the samples from Kelly Clarkson's and Fantasia's new albums.  I liked Kelly's album a lot better.  I can see how she won the first Idol.

Fantasia was the special guest on tonight's show.  Fantasia looked a bit worn-out compared to the last time we've seen her.  Let's hope that her apparent weariness is the result of a massive publicity tour, and not something more serious.  (Ruben -who was in the audience- looked good...)

Anyways, I really enjoyed Fantasia's song tonight.  I know that she sang the same song at the end of last season, but it turned out really well on this show.  She's a good screamer on the microphone.  Her voice reminded me a bit of Tom Jones.

Results:

Two of the bottom three contestants for today's show were quite surprising.  Vonzell Solomon and Nikko found themselves in the bottom three, along with the expected Scott Savol.  (Q: Who is voting for Anthony and Constantine? A: Our infamous fans of season three's JPL and John Stevens.)

Ultimately, Vonzell and Scott were safe.  Nikko was the one to be surprisingly eliminated this week.  That was more than a bit surprising considering how horrible Scott and Anthony were last night.

I wonder why Nikko was eliminated? My best guess is that he wasn't so good at connecting with the fans.  It is also possible that some fans were turned off because his dad is a hall-of-fame pro athlete.  His performances were usually good each week, and he was a nice looking, friendly, well-spoken young man.

Let's see what happens next week...

In defense of Fantasia, the second album is really where they come into their own. Kelly's first album wasn't that fantastic either, but her newest album really shines.

I'm surprise Vonzell Solomon is in the bottom three too. I half expected Nadia.

I'm not surprise however that Nikko was eliminated. I suspect he didn't get voted into the top 12 for the same reason. I had wonder how long he might last and had hoped he might get more fans. Although Nikko was consistent in his performance, he didn't really improve nor get worse. To me, he's more a music person than a vocal person. I also agree with you that he didn't connect well with his audience.

Both Anthony and Constantine have the girls fan bases. A couple of weeks ago, I wondered whohas the bigger fan base. Constantine have slowly improved (playing to his strength) while Anthony degraded.

You would think with Bo working the retro thing he would have picked a song from "Jesus Christ Superstar" or some other rock opera like "Tommy".
Oh well, maybe he's safe enough to where he's trying to appeal outside of his core fan base.........

I'm really surprised Scott is still there.........

Maybe there are extra rights fees to use those ones.  Otherwise, maybe he wouldn't want to be so "predictable."

That would have been fantastic to hear.

O.K. Somebody remind/tell me why Scott is still there?

Anthony?

Constantine has a huge girl fan base and I predict he will make it to the top 3 or 2 wether he deserves it or not.

I hope next weeks show is better. I do not like show tunes!

I'm not sure why Anthony is still there.  He sounds very generic.  I think his genre should be Christian Rock.

Oh - now I'm disappointed. Nikko will be kicked off in 25 minutes my time and the whole time I would have been praying he stayed.
Over Scott and Vonzell -- I really don't know HOW Anthony is still there because that was THE worst rendition of Climb every mountain.
My guess is the "sympathy" vote because Simon called in Horrible.

A few of the performances reminded me of Rogers & Hammersteins Cinderella (Brandy & Whitney Housten)
