Tonight's American Idol featured the first two-song performances by the contestants.  The first song was supposed to be one written by a certain famous song writing duo, and the second song was supposed to come from the current Billboard charts.

What bugged me about the second set of songs on tonight's show was that they weren't introduced by title.  I wish that they would do that.  I wasn't able to identify any of the set of second songs sung by the contestants.  (They did the same thing with the "Post 2000" song night.  I didn't know what the hell they were singing!)

Tonight's Contestants:

1) Anthony Federov sang "Poison Ivy", which wasn't so good; then he sang "??" which was a lot better.

The first song sounded like poor karaoke, and then the second song sounded like something he should be singing.  -I think that Anthony would do best in a "Barry Manilow" or a "Styx" night.

The final analysis: Weak.

2) Scott Savol sang "On Broadway", followed by "??".

Anthony's weakness made Scott seem strong by comparison.  His first song wasn't awful, and his second song was the type of song that Scott should be singing.

Since he (finally) did reasonably well this week, maybe he'll (finally) get booted.

3) Vonzell sang "Treat Me Nice", and then she sang "??"

She looked and sounded good for both songs.  Both songs were however, a bit boring.  Since I like Vonzell so much, she gets my vote tonight.

4) Bo Bice sang "Stand By Me"; followed by a song that I have actually heard, but still can't identify.

Both songs turned out well for Bo.  He'll have good records, and enjoy lots of airplay in his future.  (The jacket he wore for his second song would have looked best on the night he sang his Lynyrd Skynyrd song.)

5) Carrie Underwood sang "Trouble" and "??"

Both of Carrie's songs were pretty good.  I think she was the strongest contestant of the night.  She does need to put a little consideration into spicing up her stage performances.

Tonight's best and worst (on a relatively boring show):

Best: Carrie          Worst: Anthony

We'll see who gets booted tomorrow...  (I wonder what'll be on Primetime Live...  Corey must have had a busy/fun time during the season two mansion life.  Trenyce, Kimberly, and Paula too?  I wonder what's so special about that guy anyway?)

Tell us more about your Corey comment. I am not keeping up with AI this year except for your blog.

I love your summaries!

Nancy: far be it from me to dish out the dirt.  I do recall reading about Corey's special relations with both Trenyce and Kimberly Caldwell in Simon's book.

This Paula Abdul stuff is new.  I'll have to watch Primetime Live like everyone else to see about what Corey is claiming.

Jamie I watched this last night and caught most of the song names for you if you feel like updating the blanks.

Anthony sang a Backstreet Boys song called Incomplete - Ryan Seacrest said it was number 28 on the charts

Scott sang number 30something Everytime you go away - Brian McKnight

Vonzell sang the number one single by the American Idols - When you told me that you loved me.

Bo sang a Michael W Smith (Christian artist) song but I didn't catch the name

and I missed Carrie's but I guessed it was from the country charts maybe Faith Hill -- truly I have no idea.

I definitely agree with your best & worsts - but I really wasn't a fan of Vonzell last night.
