Yay. South Dakota
Published on June 25, 2005 By Jamie Burnside In Home & Family

This afternoon my wife, my son, and I returned form our week-long vacation to the Black Hills. It was an awful long drive from central Minnesota, all the way across South Dakota, but I really enjoyed it. (South Dakota actually flies by with that higher speed limit! The Minnesota leg of the trip was the long part.)

Nearby Rapid City, we had some fun at a place called "Old MacDonald's Farm." Kenny is CRAZY about animals lately. He spends all day every day playing with his hard plastic animals. The farm was a big hit with him.

Mom liked feeding the goats.

Kenny enjoyed a pony ride (twice).

We visited Mount Rushmore. That was really impressive. I was surprised at how detailed the sculptures are, as well as how skillfully the artist used the sunlight. I wasn't expecting much, but this place turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.

We really liked Custer State Park. We enjoyed seeing all of the animals that live there. Next time that we go to South Dakota, I would like to do some camping there, as well as take some horse trail rides (when the kids get bigger!)

Buffaloes on the road.

Lots of Buffaloes. Buffalots.

Donkeys looking for a handout.

Kenny really wants to drive.

We visited the Badlands. Pretty. I haven't seen anything like that place.

Prairie dog towns were fun.

It looks like you had lots of fun . Or should I say Buffalots of fun

btw is there still hundreds of Wall Drug signs up?

oh one more thing when I was younger I actually convinced my brother that Mount Rushmore was a natural phenomenon.

We had season passes to Old McDonalds petting zoo last year...my kids used to have fun chasing chickens and feeding goats.  Do they still have a Jacob's Sheep there?  That thing butted me onto my butt once because I wouldn't feed it anymore.

The BadLands is really spectacular.  I lived there 9 years and still was impressed by it.

That's a good one.

Do they still have a Jacob's Sheep there?

I don't think so.
