Last night while my wife and I were grocery shopping, we found some baby back ribs.  We decided to buy them, as they were really inexpensive.  We would try cooking them Korean-barbecue style.

We marinated the ribs in: soy sauce, sake, sugar, onions, garlic, sesame oil, pepper, and sesame seeds.  With that, we had made Kalbi.  I brought them outside and cooked them on my grill.  They were very good.  Now we have one more delicious meal that we can prepare on our barbecue.

Grilling the kalbi.

Eating the kalbi.

Last night I also enjoyed Korean barbecue: 'samkyeobsal' - pork fried at the table, dipped in dwenjang sauce and wrapped in lettuce and sesame leaf ('kaennip'). A friend is leaving Korea after 15 months here and we needed to eat right before heading out to drink a few beers (and sojus).

This whole deal of eating well and drinking beer and liquor at the same time should be put on the UNESCO list of universal human cultural assets It's certainly made me a more cultured and civil human being...

Hey, we got the stuff to do this, and if you catch this before lunch time tomorrow (Hawaii time), I'm wondering how much of each goes into it?

Thanks!

6 tbsp of sake, 6 tbsp of sugar, 3 tbsp of soy sauce, 3 tbsp of crushed garlic, 4 chopped leeks, some pepper, 2 tbsp of sesame oil, 2 tbsp of sesame salt (but we used sesame seeds)

Mix it up, and leave it to marinate while the coals are heating up.

Should be good!

Jamie: I just wanted to say thanks for sharing the recipe.

We made the marinade (sans leeks) and used it on a couple of Ribeye steaks, and it was really unique and yummy. We poured some of the extra sake in glasses to go with the meal, but we didn't get past the first sip!
