Recently while doing my morning workouts at the gym, I have been watching "The Price is Right". The continued run of that show -in a basically unchanged format- for as long as I remember, is life-affirming, and brings me back to watching the show in summers past.
Up to now, the most memorable TPIR moment for me had been that time when a lady lost her tube top while running down to contestants' row. I remember her starting to "come on down", and then there was an edit (after she had indeed come down, and then gone up again), then a cut to the audience and Bob going wild over something that had apparently happened.
Since I was pretty young at the time, I didn't know exactly what I missed, but I knew that there was some kind of problem with the wardrobe. (Seven year-olds aren't so good at catching on to innuendo.) In later years, the clip was shown on bloopers shows (and on VH1). So now I know what I missed at that moment.
On today's show, there was this guy named Andrew. He is possibly the oddest contestant that I have ever seen on the show. Andrew's first bid on contestant's row was an eyebrow-raising $6000 on something that was worth about $1700. (I wonder if that was a record-high bid on contestants' row?)
Besides gesturing wildly, hugging other contestants, physically approaching audience members to get pricing advice, and nearly knocking down the bid boards, Andrew started running toward stage (assuming that he had won with a one-dollar bid) after he had lost a bid on contestants' row. (Eventually he made it on-stage, but lost a chance to win two banjos and a sofa. Don't know what happened after that, as I went home after Andrew was up.)
This was one of the rare times in recent memory that I have found myself laughing aloud at a game show. (One other person in the gym at the time was laughing as well.) "Crazy Andy" made an impression today, and will go down as one of the series' most unique contestants.

One more gameshow tidbit: American Idol contestants are appearing on "The Family Feud" this week. Among the contestants are personal favorites: Julia DaMato (who should be more famous -acting or modeling- by now!), Vanessa Oliveras, and Amy Adams.
