This topic isn't my own.  The other night on the radio I heard a guy pose a question to the listeners.  The question went like this:  What's your favorite sport (to watch), and what caused you to like that sport so much?

I thought that was good "food for thought", and I decided to write a weblog article about that.

For me, my favorite sport is baseball.  I think that I can trace my love of baseball back to the Saturday afternoon games on NBC when I was a kid.  I loved listening to Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola's call of the (mainly Dodger) games.  Even though I am a big fan of the Twins now, my first favorite team was the Dodgers.

Every Saturday I hoped that I would have a chance to see either Fernando Valenzuela or Orel Herscheiser pitch.  (I also was excited to see Rick Sutcliffe (Cubs) or Ron Darling (Mets) start games too.)  I was always entertained by the play-by-play and color commentary offered by those two wonderful announcers.

I don't think that weekend baseball has the appeal now that it once used to, but I am happy that I was introduced to baseball when I was.

I suppose football, but not professional. My dad and grandpa were big Arkansas Razorbacks fans, and I graduated from the University of Arkansas, so I watch college football quite regularly. I used to watch the Olympics a lot, but not so much anymore.

To Watch: Footbal, i have been a major 49ers fan, and lions fan....(except for one year long ago i cheered for the broncos...it was shamefull) I just love the quickness and the strategy...favorite player is Joe Montana, then Joey Harrington (oregon born and raised...) then Steve young, and Jerry Rice...

I also love baseball, I am a huge Red Sox fan(Whoo hoo! WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!) (finally) i also like the Cubs and Diamond backs...favorite player is Nolan Ryan, Cal Ripken, and then Randy Johnson (got to see him play a few times when he was here in arizonia...i can tell you one thing, i would never want to be on the receiving end of any of his pitches...especially if they are off...ouch..)

I also like Basketball, but not as much...My favorite team is the TrailBlazers(i was born in oregon, that kinda explains it) or as others call them, the "JailBlazers" ....hope they do better...I like Luke Jackson, and Luke Ridnour....but most of all i like Michael Jordan...

But, My love, is Soccor...(aka futball) i played it for years...(13-ish, give or take) and i just love it...i played pretty much as a forward...i like the Manchester United...and i like Pele... ( OLE! OLE! OLE! OLE!)

This is a little tuff as I'm a sports fan and also used to participate in many sports before old age and
before health issues cropped up....
ok
favourite sport to watch is is.......is ice skating! I used to skate, and love the physicality of it,
the jumps, the dancing on ice, the expressing of one's very soul to music. It's like Michelle Kwan.
Some people skate TO the music, some skate WITH the music, she BECOMES the music
ya, skating.

I love watching pro football. I also like college basketball and college football. I like watching all sports. I even watch shows like Pardon the Interruption. The reason I love pro football is that each game means so much to the season since each team only plays 16 games. And the way the schedule is set up each year your team no matter how bad they played the year before actually has a chance. Most teams do stay in contention for the playoffs late into the season. I remember this survey thay gave to men, which would you rather do on a Sunday afternoon.. watch the NFL or have sex?.. like 76% of the men said football.

Another thing I been watching alot lately is Texas Hold'em No Limit Poker. I love it. I watch it all the time on every channel I can find it on. I love playing too. In fact I'm playing in my second tournament tonight. Nothing big it's limited to the first 400 people. When I retire I want to play nothing but golf and poker.

Pardon the interruption , Jamie, but I'm going to try and abort a thread hijack..

Lucas, is this your thread? You're acting like you wrote this article....do you not have any boundaries at all?

Would you believe that I didn't know baseball was entertaining until the Cubs almost made it to the World Series two years ago? I always had the impression that it was a bunch of guys standing around waiting to see if the batter would hit the ball, and that was the only exciting moment. And since so few batters made it on base, it seemed like the most boring game in the world.

But when I watched the Cubs two years ago (I'm originally from Illiniois) I finally understood that all the suspense is in the pitching. Every pitch seemed like life or death. And then, within the series, there was all the speculation about which pitcher they would employ, and what they expected from him. And then those wild card relief pitchers, and how terrifyingly unreliable they could be.

The truth is, I've just never really liked team sports. I prefer individual competitions, like the events at the olympics, and tennis. But watching those playoff games with the Cubs, I understood how people could become obsessed by all the variables, all the different players and their vastly different personalities and behaviors.

I guess I could be a baseball fan if I took the time. But I haven't watched it since.

I like ice hockey. My husband plays and I just think its so much fun to watch. He is a goalie. I love to see him make saves. I think glove saves are the most impressive. I like the pace of it and how physical it is. I also like that it isn't as high scoring as something like basketball. They really have to work to make those goals so its so much more exciting when they do. I'm so glad that we will have the NHL back this year. Go Stars! I never really was a sports person until I met my husband. I do get tired of the ignorant idiots who only want to watch a fight and ask "you ever hit anyone with that stick - duh huh!?" Though I must say that it is amazing to me that some of the fights don't come off the ice. They can be so ugly to each other on the ice and then get off the ice and have a beer together. It must be a guy thing.

Sorry Jamie, it boggles the mind!

I love soccer, so much that I recently watched a game on Spanish television and I don't speak the language but I understood!

My second love is Track and Field.
