Hello there friends. Happy Tuesday to all of you!

My wife and I have just finished watching another exciting episode of "American Idol." We were pleased that this week's episode was a lot better than last week's episode. Here is what I thought about the performances.

Who am I? I am a thirty-one year-old elementary school teacher from Central Minnesota. What does my opinion count for, and why am I writing this? My opinion counts for nothing, but this is my way of "playing along at home."

Tonight's performers:

1. Elizabeth Letendre - When the host was talking with her, and during her pre-song interview, it really seemed as if she has nothing to say. I wonder whether she'd be very interesting to "hang around" with. She sang a Whitney Houston song that was so-so.

I liked her dress a lot.

2. Eric Yoder- I was expecting this guy to be really good. He looks pretty charming. He sang "In the still of the night." (Not the one by Whitesnake!) The song sounded a bit strange to me. I was underwhelmed.

3. Amy Adams- (It seems that she was originally scheduled for week four. I wonder what happened?) Of all of tonight's contestants, I was pulling for her the most. Pretty, bubbly, very interesting. She seems like someone who I would like to spend my free-time with. She sang a Celine Dion song which turned out pretty well.

Like Matthew last week, I think that Amy will stand a good chance to move on to the next round regardless of her subgroup performance. She made a lot of fans during the audition stages. (I am going to vote for her.)

4. John Peter Lewis- If I were on the show, I imagine that I would look like this guy in front of the camera... kind of dazed. That said, he seems like someone who I'd like to have over for dinner and play video games with.

J.P. sang an Elton John song. Lots of contestants try Elton John songs, few succeed to surpass the original. (Clay Aiken's fantastic "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" comes to mind as being one of the good ones.) Hearing people try the songs make me appreciate Elton John's talent more than I would otherwise.

John Peter Lewis reminds me of Peter Scolari (Busom Buddies, Newhart.) Someone really good for a supporting part on a TV show, but not the star.

5. Charly Lowry- I think that she is really cool, so I was hoping for her to do well. She looked really nice. She sang "Chain of Fools." It was fine, but not spectacular.

6. Jonah Moananu- Seems like a good guy to have at a party. His song was dull and his voice sounded weak. I really doubt that he has it in him to "belt-out" a show-tune. I would bet that his biggest talent lies in rap music.

7. Leah Labelle- (Apparently changed her name for the show.) By this point, my wife didn't want to hear another try at a Whitney Houston song. (Maybe that is similar to how I feel about Elton John songs. Too few can actually cut-it.)

She had a cute dress, and she looked nice on camera. Since she sang well too, I am sure that she will make it back for the wild-card show if she isn't voted-through this week.

8. Latoya London- She sang a song that I have heard way too much of, but I was happy to have heard it once she finished. She did very well for herself. It will be interesting to see her in the final-twelve.

Jamie - I love your blog re-caps of the shows. I think you are right on. I think Latoya was the best last night - not only her performance and her voice but her look is dead-on. The other ones look like they are "trying to be stars". She IS a star. I like Amy too. I hope they go through to the next round.
