On public television, there is an often-ran series from the 1970s titled "Good Neighbors". It is a story of a couple, Tom and Barbara Good, who are living a life of self-sufficiency in the suburbs. They do their best to support themselves in their garden. Tom and Barbara are contrasted by their neighbors, the Ledbetters, who are climbers of the social ladder. Beside the occasional minor conflict, both couples get along quite well.

After watching bits and pieces of the 28-episode series over the years, I made an effort to catch the whole thing in sequence beginning this summer. Last night the first Christmas special was broadcast. With the first special out of the way, I only have one "new" episode to look forward to. I have been feeling a little sad at the end of each of the latest episodes, as I know that they'll be ending soon.

So if you ever have a chance, I'd recommend watching this show. It is a happy, light show, with pleasant characters. Tom and Barbara's relationship is so nice to observe, and their outings with their neighbors reminds me of happy times that my wife and I have spent with our friends. ...All this and you get to see Felicity Kendall!
