Hello there friends.

We have just finished watching Group 4 perform on American Idol. This week was interesting. There were a lot of pretty girls on tonight's show. I was entertained with the singing too. It seemed like the judges were getting on each other's nerves a bit tonight. I wonder how much of that is an act, and how much is real.

The Contestants:

1. Suzy Vulaca- She sang the song "Un-break my Heart." She is a cool-looking girl, with an appealing understated confidence. I really dig the wild hair too.

There wasn't really anything wrong with the song. I thought it was pretty good. My wife thought that it sounded too much like the original. If she doesn't pass through tonight, I'd bet that she'll have a good chance to make it back for the wild-card show.

2. John Preator- He had a real rough start to the song, and it didn't improve much. Too bad for him.

Simon commented that he would be a good skating singer. I think that Simon was struck with a subliminal image of Scott Hamil. Hamil had the same Garfunkelesque hairstyle in the early 1980s as John Preator does now.

3. Heather Piccinini- The judges like to compare this lady to Kimberly Caldwell from season two. I never really agreed with that until I heard her sing tonight. She reminded me of Kimberly.

Her song was so-so. She looked good on camera. What else can I say?

I liked her dad's shirt. I wish that I had one like that.

4. John Stevens- This poor kid looked awfully nervous before going on stage. I really felt for him. His intro package was a little humorous. He speaks with the same inflection as Lilith Crane.

John's song wasn't so good. He is teriffic at the Sinatra impersonation, but not so good at the Billy Joel. Simon's commentary on John was spot-on. Simon said that his performance wasn't good due to relative young age, but his uniqueness is his strongpoint.

John Stevens has a good chance of getting a lot of votes because I'd reckon that he has a built-in following established in the audition shows (see: Amy Adams, George Huff, and Matthew Rosebowl.) ...That's probably the first time that I have ever used "reckon" in a sentence.

5. Jasmine Trias- Super-pretty girl. Nice dress. Good smile. I am sure that she'll get a lot of votes.

I am super-tired of hearing R&B ballads on these shows. That said, Jasmine's was good enough. I am pretty confident that she'll get voted through to the top twelve.

6. George Huff- George may be taking the "Rickey Path" by getting through on personality. He is taking the "first runner-up" position by stepping in for one of his fellow contestants (who was kicked out of the competition for a DUI. Harsh!) George seems like an awfully sweet guy. His personality and the dead-on Randy Jackson impersonation will earn him a lot of votes.

George's song had a rough start, but it got better once he was into it. In spite of the rough spots, I liked George's song.

7. Lisa Wilson- It was really nice to see her on TV without that boy-band wannabe doorknob in the same shot. (You know, the guy who Lisa frolicked in the hot tub with.)

I liked Lisa's voice and her song. At least it wasn't an R&B song. The judges' comments however, were not so kind. Simon commenting on her big mouth will probably make her self-conscious for the rest of her life.

8. Tiara Purifoy- I liked her clothes.

Her song was okay, but I am all for a moratorium on Whitney Houston songs for the remainder of the competition.

My predictions for the night: Jasmine and George. (If I were to pick my own favorites, I'd say Jasmine and Suzy.)

My wife's predictions for the night: Jasmine and Lisa.

I am totally with you on this Jamie! My favorites and picks were identical. I really think Lisa tanked on this show. Not a good song for her. She seemed nervous even though she denied it.

I wanted to smack Paula when she told John Stevens that she missed the Sinatra stuff after telling him she wanted to hear him do pop stuff! I think Simon was dead on in what he said about him.

I thought tonight's show was a lot of fun.
