The last time the rock group Queen came to our market (as far as I know) was in 1981.  Since I was only nine at the time, I couldn't really go to see them in concert.  (I don't think that I was all that interested at the time either.)

Once I started listening to recorded music, one of the bands that I have really wanted to see live is Queen.  Of course that opportunity was sadly taken away from me in 1991,

Since Freddie Mercury died, there had been rumors about the band reforming with various lead singers.  My personal favorite among the rumors was having George Michael front the band.  (I think that would be really cool!  He has a good enough voice to sing Freddie's songs.)

Finally after all these years, Queen has reformed with new front man Paul Rodgers.  I hear that they'll be playing my market in March.  (Tickets go on sale this Saturday.)  That sounds like a good time.

Of course with two kids at home, there's not much chance of me going.  That's okay.  The days of going to arena concerts have passed me by.  I'd prefer bars, casinos, and other small venues to the larger places anyhow.  Maybe I'll go the next time they come to town (I bet they will.  Just look at Lynyrd Skynyrd.  They were defunct for a long time, then the "Tribute" band turned into a regular traveling show.)  By then the kids will be bigger, and my wife and I can go out and enjoy ourselves.

I'll just pop a Queen video into the machine.  I think that I have a couple of their European concerts from the mid-1980s on tape.  That'll be less hassle than driving to Saint Paul, paying to park, and all that.

I heard about this and was initiall dubious. I just don't hear Paul Rodger's voice fitting in with the Queen style of music.

But apparently the shows sold out in the UK, so it must be doing pretty well.

I've heard a few songs that Paul Rodgers with Queen did. I liked what I heard. It does come off as a kind of cover band, but Paul Rodgers doesn't try to be Freddie Mercury and Queen doesn't try to be Bad Company, so it works (at least for me).

They are coming to Milwaukee too, and I'd love to go see them, but well, even with the tickets pretty reasonably priced, they're still out of my price range. Like you, I'll have to settle for live albums, videos and my copy of "Live at Wembley" on DVD. Not anywhere near the real thing, but then again, I don't have "audio hangover" and a raspy voice for three days after either! ;~D

((((Course, I would trade a clear voice and normal hearing to go!))) ;~D
