Plus my "adventuresome" day off.

Hello friends! I hope that you're having a happy day.

I am enjoying a day off from work. Since we had to work extra hours over the last two days for Parent-Teacher Conferences, today's break is our compensatory day. I sure needed it! Running around between three schools and rushing in and out of conferences is exhausting.

I had two goals for myself today. Both of them required me to sit "on hold."

The first goal was to contact the INS to check on my wife's permanent green card. I was fortunate enough to get a helpful operator. This lady actually did something for me! She answered my questions, explained things to me, and actually was helpful. That was a first for me in dealing with the INS in the USA. (In Japan they're terrific by the way.) To get to this lady, I had accidentally requested service in Spanish. (Which I will do next time too. The wait is much shorter that way.)

My second goal was to contact the people who make "Turbo Tax." The "Turbo Tax Minnesota" that I had ordered was apparently lost in the mail. They sent me a replacement for free. The big challenge for that one was actually finding the phone number! On the Turbo Tax Basic's internet link, they ask you a bunch of questions before finally giving the phone number. It actually took me ten minutes to get that number.

Now that those things are done I can be happy. I will have lunch with my wife, we'll go grocery shopping, and do who knows what else. Tonight's plan is to visit a community fish fry at a local elementary school. I have never been to a community event like that before. It should be fun.

It has taken a bit of a long time to address the title of this blog hasn't it?

The big news around here is that my seeds that I am working on have started to sprout. A few days ago I had planted 12 different kinds of vegetables in a miniature greenhouse. Once they get big, I will move the plants outdoors. Last night, we were able to see the first sprouts come from the seeds. I was pretty excited. The daikon was the first to sprout. I wonder what will be second...

Well, my wife is calling from the kitchen. It is lunchtime. I will post this now, and then proofread it after lunch. Enjoy the following photographs:

Last night before going to bed, my wife convinced me to photograph the buds. She thought that we'd have a surprise in the morning.

Kazuko was right! All of our daikon (Asian white radishes) have sprouted. Yay!

Here is Kenny wearing a baseball hat. It is too big for him yet, but it looks cute.

Kenny likes to eat his fingers.

Congrats on your sprouts and the day off!! Did you guys get snow dumped on you like we did?

Yeah. We got like four inches or so. I am debating whether it is worth it to shovel, or whether it'll just melt quickly anyway.
