One of the channels on my television is VH1 Classics. As the name implies, they play older videos. The Classics channel is great. Lots of videos, not a lot of speaking, and the commercials are very infrequent. It is a very enjoyable way to watch music videos.
Lately I have noticed a slight growth in the all-talk and talk-intensive types of shows. There is a program called "Hanging With..." which is a half interview/ half video show. I also saw a show with Dee Snyder and some guy from Anthrax sitting at a table with two other guys, talking about being Jewish rock stars. (Hanukkah special?)
I am a little worried by these developments, as it seems that VH1 Classics is gradually slipping away from the "all video" format. I hope that this channel doesn't end up like VH1 or MTV (on the lower service tier) by becoming a channel that is extremely loosely related to music videos. I fear that VH1 Classics may not be able to avoid the temptation to broadcast the rock stars of the past on some sort of stupid "reality" TV show -instead of old videos like they have now-.
