Hi there friends. I hope that you've had a happy Tuesday.
Here at my house, we've just finished watching the American Idol wild-card show. It was really fun to watch. Here is the show as I saw it:
The first segment: Four contestants were eliminated. The four who were eliminated never had a chance to perform on the show. How disappointing for them.
I thought that this segment was really harsh for the contestants who didn't make it. It really seemed as if the judges were pretty unconfortable with the roles that they were given too. I think that this new twist to the show is a nod to "The Apprentice."
Even though I haven't seen "The Apprentice," I understand that part of the show involves Donald Trump calling his "employees" on the carpet, and then "firing them" on camera. (I'd bet that Simon gripes about that in his next book.)
The contestants:
1. Jon Peter Lewis- He sang an Elvis song. It was fun to watch, and it sounded reasonably good. I think that tonight's performance will help JPL to gain a lot of fans. -Of course, he was pretty popular to begin with. It may be strange, but JPL seemed to resemble Tom Jones ever-so-slightly while singing the song.
If he doesn't get voted through, I hope that one of the judges picks him. I think that he has a pretty good chance considering the lack of men in the competition so far.
2. Elizabeth Letendre- I like her. She has been one of my favorites in the competition. Tonight her song was good, but not striking.
I doubt that she'll get voted through or chosen. She is okay, but doesn't light up the world.
3. Katie Webber- Nice clothes and that blue skirt was pretty striking. We went two whole songs into the show without a Whitney Houston song. Katie fixed that. She sang "So Emotional."
Katie was kind of so-so. My wife commented that it seemed like she was singing karaoke. It will hurt Katie (and Elizabeth) that there are two women on the show who are so similar that were placed to perform back-to-back. I think she has little chance of moving on.
4. George Huff- What can we say about George? He is a ham for the camera and he is a funny guy. He makes people smile when he performs (like a talented William Hung.)
I liked the song, the clothes, and the dancing. George stands a good chance of getting into the final-twelve. I don't think that he'll get voted in, but he may get chosen by the judges in an attempt to get more men into the competition.
5. Suzy Vulaca- This is the girl who I was most rooting-for. She is pretty, and... well that's all I really know about her, isn't it? I'd just like to "get to know her" better.
Suzy sang her song really well, and her clothes and look were fantastic. I'd bet that she'll last a long time in the final-twelve. I would bet a bunch of money that at least she'll get voted-in by a judge. I have a strong hunch that she'll be the peoples' choice this week.
6. Matthew Metzger- This guy sang another sappy rock-ballad. Whenever these songs come on the radio, I usually change the channel. (Not saying that I don't like rock ballads, just not ones by: Bruce Hornsby, Bryan Adams, Bob Seger, and the like.)
His performance tonight was blah too. It seemed that the judges were really pulling for him because they see a "sex appeal" in him. I doubt he has any chance to make it to the next round. I hope that he can find a full-time teaching job next year.
7. Leah LaBelle- For some reason I have the feeling that America wants to knock this girl down a peg. She has "princess" written all over herself. That's why I doubt that she'll get voted onto the final twelve. Luckily for Leah, she'll have her fate in the judges' hands. I'd bet that she'll get voted in by one of the judges.
The problem with Leah in the final-twelve is that she'll be competing with Camille and Jasmine who seem to have the "soft-spoken young lady" market cornered.
Leah's song tonight was alright I guess. I really liked her hairstyle and the flower.
8. Jennifer Hudson- The crying and the "Praise Jesus" stuff is a bit over-the-top. I don't like it in football, I don't care for it in pop music either. Being that emotional is a turn-off for the males in the audience. (Who wants a complicated girl, right?)
Her singing was good tonight. The song that she chose was not my cup-of-tea, but I am never really up for R&B music. I'd bet that she has a good chance of getting chosen by one of the judges to go on to the final twelve.
Predictions:
Jamie Burnside: Winner: Suzy Vulaca Judges Picks: Jennifer Hudson, Jon Peter Lewis, and Leah LaBelle.
Mrs. Burnside: Winner: Suzy Vulaca Judges Picks: Jennifer Hudson, Jon Peter Lewis, and George Huff.
We'll see tomorrow, eh?
