Jamie Burnside's Articles In Pets & Nature

On April 30th I wrote an article about seeing a bunny in the yard .  It was a big one! Since then, I have seen that bunny (and another one) hanging around in various places in my yard. Today as I was mowing the lawn, another little guy ran out of the bushes as I was walking past.  I followed him around the house, and caught up with the little one next to my garage.  (For some reason, rabbits like to hang out along the north side of my garage.) I was able to get a couple ...

181 Hello there friends! There is only one day left until Spring Break! Yay! I have lots of plans for my lawn. I am going to dig a garden plot, start working on putting a path from my garage to my house, and I am going to make a cement base for a flagpole. (We are going to put Japanese carp streamers -koinobori- on the flagpole. We are doing that to celebrate the Japanese Children's Day holiday.) What comes with Spring Break? Spring time! With the arrival of Spring, we get to ...

Hello there my friends. How are all of you today? I hope that everything is going well. I am writing this from my work. My kindergarteners have gone back to class, and I am about to get ready to go to one of my other schools. In two of the buildings where I work, my classroom is in an interior room. (Only one of my classrooms has a window with a view.) As I was teaching this afternoon, I heard voices from the other room talking about freezing rain. Apparently it started raining out...

Hello there friends. I hope that you're having a nice day. I enjoyed day 2 of my three-day weekend. They're such a pleasure, aren't they. Today my wife suggested that we go outside to build an igloo. I thought that was a FANTASTIC idea. I hadn't tried that in many years. Once Kenny fell asleep, we brought the baby monitor outside and started piling-up the snow in the yard next to the garage. We made a pretty big mound. After we piled up enough snow, we started hollowing out the pile. ...

I have three pet hedgehogs at my house. Their names are Skippy, Yuki (brother and sister,) and MozoMozo (their mother.) They're each 2-3 years-old. They're really cute. When I fed the hedgehogs tonight, I inadvertantly switched bowls. I put MozoMozo's bowl in Skippy's cage. Hedgehogs have a funny habit. When they find a new smell, they like to lick up whatever is making that smell, swish it around in their mouths, and then spread the smell all over themselves with their long tongues. (I...

Hey there. It was seemingly a long day. As I was driving home from work, I thought about what I had done during the day. Thinking back to events in the morning, I said to myself: "Wow! I can't believe that happened this morning! It seems so long ago." But now I find myself at home, updating my weblog. Ready to unwind after another in a string of busy days leading to summer vacation. After this I will play with my barbells, watch sumo, play with my wife and son, and eat dinner. I pla...

Hello there! After work today, I took a side-trip to a bank nearby my school to deposit some checks. Since I was on a different course, I decided to drive along the Mississippi River to get home. The drive takes a litter longer than the highway, but I enjoy the view. As I was driving and looking at the river, I thought to myself, "This is awfully pretty. I should bring my wife here some time." Just about the time I was thinking that, I saw a large flock of white trumpeter swans swi...
