Before I start on tonight’s show:  I just want to add that I have just recently purchased Blake Lewis’ album.  I think that after a couple of listens, I’d recommend it to those of you who are in the market for something interesting. Throw Morrisey, Jamiroquai, Justin Timberlake, and Prince into a blender, and you’ll probably end up with something like Blake. Final analysis: a couple of pretty catchy songs, nothing terribly lame.  My biggest criticism...

From seasons 2-6, and 7 of American Idol, I have always dedicated one blog to handicapping the top 12 (10) finalists. It is usually one of my favorite Idol-related blogs of the year. This year’s competition features significantly fewer “straw men” than in previous years.  I am expecting several surprise eliminations before everything is all said and done. So here is my list of odds of winning as well as order of elimination. GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING 1.  ...

Tuesday, March 5, 2008:  Good show.  Nearly all of the performances were worthy of a trip into the top-twelve.  Will there be a surprise on the results’ show this week?  My guess: “Yes.” 1.    Luke Menard sang“Wake me up (before you go-go).”  Ugh.  Luke sings like Herbert (the creepy old guy) from “Family Guy.”  The only really “bad” song of the night. 2.    David Archulett...

I wrote about the men, now I will write about the women. A few hours after the show, what do I remember? Two girls sang Heart, one was good and one was bad. Brooke White put Carly Simon comparisons to bed.  She certainly is likeable. The horse girl from Oregon certainly is nice looking. We need more of her on TV! (Kristy Lee Cook.) Ramiele Mulabay seems like a nice girl, but she REALLY needs a skirt.  One of my favorites. The last girl (Asia'H) who sang "All By Myself" ...

Okay.  It has been nearly a year since the last time I wrote in here.  I guess that I had become burned-out with writing about "American Idol" with little-to-no reaction. Watching last night's show, I decided that it is about time that I get "back on the horse" and share my opinions on Idol with the world once more.  (So comment damn it!!) Here we go (in no particular order): Daniel Archuletta: Strong contestant.  Seemed less dumbstruck in his post song interview.&...

The first eight finalists have finished their performances. I was REALLY impressed with the first group. This is probably one of the strongest top-32 finalist shows that I have seen. I think that I enjoyed everybody's performance. I don't like the studio audience though. I think that there was a bit more pressure with just the singers and the judges. That said, Simon was pretty chipper tonight, wasn't he? Diana DeGarmo- Really good. She is my favorite so far. (She's who I voted for....

Hello there friends. Today is Monday. No American Idol tonight. I am looking forward to Tuesday's competition, and Wednesday's results show. Tomorrow's contestants include: Fantasia Barrino, Diana DeGarmo, Jennifer Hudson, Marque Lynche, Matthew Metzger, Ashley Thomas, Erskine Walcott, and Katie Webber. Of the first eight, I am most eagerly anticipating Katie Webber's performance. I am however more than willing to be surprised by anyone's performance. Regarding my headline: I am sur...

A few years ago I rented and watched the video "Fools Rush In," starring Matthew Perry amd Selma Hayak (spelling may be off there.) I remember thinking that the movie was sweet, and a lot of fun to watch. I think that I had even recommended it to a number of people. Last night they played that movie on TBS. I watched it with my wife. I had built it up as a really good movie that we'll enjoy watching. Well, it wasn't horrible. It just wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. There were a...

Hi there friends. This morning as I was beginning to wake up, I heard the familiar sounds of the beginning theme to "Beavis and Butthead" coming from the television. As my wife had been flipping channels this morning, she came across the show on MTV2. That was enough to get me out of bed. I really enjoyed watching that show while it was on. I am a little surprised that MTV Networks never got a syndication deal for it. There are tons of episodes. That said, I was surprised that MTV nev...

Hello there friends! I hope that you're having a happy Thursday. This week is just flying by! Last night was the final evening in a three-night stretch of "American Idol." I enjoyed watching each episode. Last night's episode contained its fair-share of heart-wrenching cuts. You already know my favorites. (If you don't, just scroll down my weblog a little.) The good news is that most of them made it. The final 32 seems like a really interesting and talented bunch. Now I have to w...

Tonight, Kazuko and I watched the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Surprisingly, that was the first time that I have seen that movie. I was really pleased with that one. I like Richard Dreyfuss. Besides "What About Bob," "Close Encounters" may be my favorite movie that he's in. I was never able to catch that CBS show he was in last year. That may be a blessing in disguise since it was cancelled rather quickly. This will have made two nights in a row that my wife and I have ...

Hello there friends. I hope that you're surviving your work week. I seem to be doing okay here. It is awfully cold and snowy here! I have to shovel my driveway again when I get home. Like my title says, tonight is the first episode of the post-audition "American Idol." I am really looking forward to getting to know the "characters." Once we know the contestants, we can choose favorites and know whom to root for. There were four audition episodes leading up to the competition. The au...

Well, it is Sunday night. Back to work tomorrow... I had a happy weekend. Kazuko and I did some shopping, we watched some television, and we visited two craft sales. The second craft sale that we visited was at the Monticello Community Center. The community center is just a few blocks away from our house. Kazuko and I were really surprised at how nice the facilities are there. There is a really nice pool, a tall climbing wall, an indoor playground, a skate park, a gymnasium and weight...

About two weeks ago I wrote a weblog entry about the Guy Ritchie gangster movies. In a nutshell, I said that I would put up Guy Ritchie's two gangster movies against Tarantino's two gangster movies. Not to say that I don't enjoy all four movies, it is just that I liked "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels," and "Snatch" better than "Pulp Fiction," and "Reservior Dogs." Not much better, just better. On a similar note, I decided to visit the video store this morning to rent the movie "Jacki...

Well, Kazuko and I just watched Joe Millionaire. We went out to dinner at Bonanza during the show, and we watched it on tape. (The show is a lot more enjoyable if you can fast-forward through the commercials!) The show ended with a cliffhanger. Who will be coming back next week? Let the speculation begin. I am becoming a Petra fan now. I think that she seems like an interesting lady. Have a happy evening!
